Dubai, United Arab Emirates: 11 June, 2017 - Following the information circulated about Chocolate maker Mars recalling some of its stock of Galaxy, Malteasers and Minstrels confectionery from markets in the United Kingdom and Ireland, due to the potential presence of salmonella, the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) has contacted Mars UAE and reassured consumers that the products available locally are not imported from either the UK or Ireland. Majd Mohamed Al Herbawi, Director of Food Safety Department at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), reiterated that the UAE markets are free from salmonella contaminated chocolate products. The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment emphasized that all food products in the UAE, whether locally produced or imported, are safe for consumption as they are strictly monitored by the Ministry and relevant local authorities. MOCCAE also reaffirmed that there is constant coordination with relevant authorities in the UAE to ensure the safety of all imported and traded food products. Such products undergo a strict control system in accordance with the best international practices at every stage of the food chain - including conducting of laboratory tests as per the risk assessment system. An early notification mechanism helps highlight foods that pose a risk to consumers’ health.
