Importance of correct posture and back-bone health highlighted. June 7, 2017; Ras Al Khaimah, UAE: As a community initiative and to acknowledge the tireless efforts of cab drivers, RAK Hospital distributed Iftaar packages to hundreds of cabbies in Ras Al Khaimah on Tuesday. This year, taking a step further, the hospital has also offered drivers a chance to avail free neck and back assessment and subsequent consultation with the specialist doctor to ease the discomfort that comes from prolonged sitting behind the wheel. The initiative has been successful in boosting the morale of the cab drivers.
“Driving is a stressful job as it is, and long hours behind the wheel take a toll on neck and back bone health,” said Dr Tinku Jose, Specialist, Neuro Surgeon at RAK Hospital, who is available for consultation with the drivers, “It stiffens the spine, slows down blood circulation and builds up a lot of tension around shoulder blade. Eventually, it can lead to poor posture and constant backache. This is why, this Ramadan, we are trying to drive home the importance of bone health, and hopefully the free services provided will help cab drivers assess where they stand.” Dr Raza Siddiqui, CEO, Arabian Healthcare Group and Executive Director, RAK Hospital added: “The taxi drivers of Ras Al Khaimah form the backbone of the emirate’s transport service, and their services need to be acknowledged as much as possible. Few of us realise the long hours they put in the line of duty, and the physical and mental sacrifices they make. In line with the teachings of Ramadan and reflecting the spirit of Year of Giving, this is our small contribution to convey the community’s love and concern to the drivers. The iftaar packages will also help them break their fast while on the go, without deviating from their routine”. An active advocate of corporate social responsibility, RAK Hospital conducts several campaigns across various platforms to promote harmony and improve the health quotient of residents across the UAE.
