Dubai, United Arab Emirates, December 15, 2016:  The Dubai Health Authority’s (DHAs) Primary Healthcare Sector has introduced audiology services in Nad Al Hamar and Al Barsha centre, said a top health official.

Dr Manal Taryam, CEO of Primary Healthcare Sector at the DHA, said: “Primary Healthcare Centres across the DHA provide a plethora of specialised services, our scope is not limited to family medicine services only, our services go beyond that and we provide highly specialised care which is easily accessible to the community.

“The introduction of audiology services was to provide convenience to patients who need to get early hearing tests done so that they do not need to be referred to hospitals for such procedures. Many of these patients are babies and young children who need to get their hearing tests done.”

Dr Amal Bahroun, Director of Health Centres department, DHA Primary Health Sector, said: “Presently, the audiology clinic will be held once a week at Nad Al Hamar and once at Al Barsha, however, by mid- January 2017, the clinics will take place five times a week at both the centres with an expanded scope of work.”

PHC’s provide a host of services and go beyond the traditional role of a primary healthcare centre as they have several specialized clinics. Several of the PHC’s have different specialized clinics including family medicine, pediatrics, antenatal care, dentistry, osteoporosis clinic, geriatric home service for Emirati elderly patients who need home-care, diabetes clinic.

Al Barsha and Nad Al Hamar have 24 hour urgent care services and dedicated traveller’s clinics.

The PHC’s also have a well-chalked out antenatal care program for pregnant women which includes  services such as specialist consultations, regular pregnancy follow-ups, ultrasound and health education for pregnant mothers and antenatal exercise classes such as pilates, yoga and breathing techniques. First four sessions are free and are part of the package.

Women who have low risk pregnancies and register with Latifa Hospital are referred to PHC’s close to their residence. They complete their follow-ups at the PHC and for delivery, they go to Latifa Hospital.
