Dubai, United Arab Emirates, December 6, 2016:  Noor Dubai Foundation (NDF), a Dubai based non-governmental organization (NGO) active in prevention of avoidable causes of blindness, joined the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). The IAPB is the global umbrella body of over 125 organizations, comprising of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), professional bodies, educational and research institutions and major hospitals, coming together with one unified mission to eliminate the main causes of preventable blindness and visual impairment. 

With this membership, 2016 marks a new high for Noor Dubai in the global landscape of eye heath care partnerships. Noor Dubai Foundation was launched in 2008 as an initiative by the Vice president and Prime Minister of the UAE and the ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Dr Manal Taryam , CEO of Noor Dubai Foundation highlighted the importance of joining the IAPB. She said: “Through its large network of members, the IAPB will provide opportunities for the Foundation to network with peers from organizations worldwide and share best practices in addition to gaining access to global institutions such as the WHO and World Bank. By forming relationships with various entities, NDF aims to broaden its partnership potential with key global players. As a member of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Global Initiatives and now the IAPB, a key player in VISION 2020 program, Noor Dubai foundation takes its dedication to fulfilling the mission of VISION 2020 to a new level and will continue to strive towards the global initiative of a world free from avoidable forms of blindness.” 

Dr Taryam said, “In its first year, Noor Dubai managed to treat 5.8 million individuals, which led to a decision to establish Noor Dubai as an NGO in 2010. To date, over 24 million individuals from all over Africa and Asia have benefited from the free treatment and preventive programs conducted by the Foundation as well as the provision of free glasses and medication.”

The IAPB will also provide the Foundation with access to a wealth of information through the IAPB briefing papers, manuals, and tool kits as well expert advice from the IAPB staff and approved consultants on various matters including strategic planning and partnerships. 

NDF will also have the opportunity to leverage on the global recognition of the IAPB and VISION 2020 logos in addition to increasing the visibility of NDF brand and channeling traffic to our website through the IAPB membership directory online.
