November 16, 2016; Dubai, UAE:  With the aim to inculcate and create awareness about healthy habits the fun way and to draw attention towards prevention of Diabetes, RAK Diabetes Centre, Jumeirah and RAK Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah are holding one-of-its-kind “Live Healthy Carnival” on Saturday, November 19th at their premises. The event is aimed to encourage people to live healthy by imbibing good lifestyle habits. The gala event, which falls a day before World Children’s Day and a week after World Diabetes Day, will be a fun-filled outing for children, parents and grandparents with a number of interesting activities including games, face painting, exciting competitions, and fashion and magic shows for youngsters.

The carnival will be open to visitors from 3:30 pm - 8:30 pm and will hold “Live Healthy Prince and Princess Kids Fashion Show” as well as “Kids Drawing Competition” through which they will learn the importance of healthy living in a fun way plus take home some exciting prizes as well.

“Children are the pillar of our society and it’s never too early to teach them good habits from bad. We have taken a light-hearted approach to drive across a very serious message: the perils of an unhealthy lifestyle, stemming from eating junk food, an inactive routine, stress and smoking. Through children, we want the adults to understand that unless and until they set a good example for their kids and incorporate healthy habits which include eating nutritious food, an active, sporty routine and regular check-ups in their lives, few children will listen to their parents,” said Dr Raza Siddiqui, CEO of Arabian Healthcare Group, under the umbrella of which the RAK Diabetes Centre was created.

As per last year’s reports, cases of Type 1 Diabetes in children has doubled since 2000, found in babies as young as 16 months. Children with Type 1 Diabetes are more susceptible to damage to pancreas, adrenal glands and thyroid.

“As they say, action speaks louder than words, and here our actions will decide the path that the next generation will want to follow. Competition themes have also been designed to facilitate and trigger actions that can eventually lead families to live a disease-free and stress-free life, and help them find the keys to unlock the path. This carnival is a fun way to create awareness not just about diabetes, but other related disorders,” added Dr Siddiqui.

Visitors at the Carnival will be encouraged to look at a wholesome, healthy lifestyle, which includes contribution from each family member. Thought-provoking topics of Drawing competitions, such as “Papa I need you… quit smoking”, “Mom and Dad, let’s exercise today… I need you for life”, and “Grandma and Grandpa… what is the secret to your healthy long life”, not only force both children and adults to address issues head on, but help find solutions designed to suit each family from the child’s perspective.

RAK Diabetes Centre, Jumeirah and RAK Hospital have been actively and regularly creating awareness campaigns and providing free screening to fight diabetes within the UAE population. In the few months of inception, the centres in RAK Hospital, Ras Al Khaimah, and Dubai, have been able to provide a wholesome, and complete solution to diabetes management, taking into account other related diseases such as cardiovascular, obesity and neurological issues.
