Dubai, United Arab Emirates, November 15, 2016: His Excellency Humaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board and Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) recently received a high-level delegation from Ireland at the DHA headquarters.

The delegation was headed by His Excellency Charles Flanagan, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ireland. 

The two sides discussed ways to explore and enhance cooperation between the two countries in the field of healthcare, specifically to continue their partnership in medical education and to focus on building and strengthening their cooperation in the field of medical technologies and digital health.

Al Qatami provided an overview of the Dubai Healthcare system and mentioned that Dubai currently has 31 private and public hospitals, over 33,000 healthcare physicians and 2682 health facilities and that health is a sector that is been witnessing tremendous growth over the years.

Al Qatami, said: “ We have a long and fruitful relationship with Ireland in the field of medical education and we are pleased to explore this cooperation in other healthcare fields particularly in the field of medical technology and digital health which is a strong focus of the DHA’s strategy. Such collaborations present an opportunity to exchange information and ideas and work together achieve positive outcomes in the health sector.”

Flanagan highlighted that Ireland is keen to cooperate with the DHA in digital health. “Ireland is known and highly recognized globally for its capabilities in the technology area. Digital Health is a hugely interesting sub-sector and Ireland’s strengths in ICT and mobile technology combine well with expertise in traditional healthcare and medical technology. We are committed to supporting DHA in its digital health strategy.”

He added that Ireland is keen to provide innovative in areas from patient engagement, patient monitoring, data analytics, mobile applications, telehealth and wearables.  

The delegation then visited the DHA’s primary healthcare sector, IT department and health regulation department.
