Abu Dhabi, June 22, 2016: The UAE Ministry of Economy has conducted today (Wednesday, June 22, 2016) an inspection of the Ajman Markets Cooperative Society’s Al Jurf branch as part of its ongoing inspection visit program covering markets and points of sale all over the Emirates during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Dr. Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of the Ministry's Consumer Protection Department, conducted today’s visit with the participation of Jassim Abdullah Saleh, Head of the Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Division of the Ministry's Ajman office, and Shaib Al Hamadi, Head of the Society’s Marketing Department. A number of the Coop’s managers and local media representatives were present as well.

In response to Dr. Al Nuaimi’s queries, the Coop’s management clarified that it has launched an initiative to fix the prices of around 160 items all-year-round at an average value of around AED 18 million. They added that three consecutive discount campaigns have been launched for the Holy Month and Eid with an average value of AED 50 million. All the campaigns include around 1,000 food and consumable items with a discount rate of around 35 to 40 per cent.

The management team further mentioned that the average daily sales at the Al Jurf branch are normally at about 2,000 transactions. The increased demand on Ramadan offers, particularly during the first days of the holy month, pushed the number to around 4,900. The total sales of the Ajman Markets Cooperative Society for 2015 in its three branches (Nuaimiya, Al Rumailah and Al Jurf) was at AED 263 million, with the number of the Society’s shareholders increasing to 3,800.

Dr. Al Nuaimi pointed out the need to install barcode price detection devices in several places within the branch to help consumers check item prices before buying them and reduce complaints of differences between the shelf and cashier prices.

At the end of the tour, Dr. Al Nuaimi emphasized the Ajman Markets Cooperative Society’s continuous development, noting its success in providing excellent well-structured services that fully satisfy customers. The Director affirmed that the Coop is providing sufficient quantities of consumables and food products to the population of Ajman City. He added that the Cooperative Society is making attractive and extensive price reductions and that such campaigns are undertaken throughout the year.
