AUD Law Students Introduced to Customs Laws and Regulations

Dubai, UAE, April 2, 2016:   Dubai Customs has further consolidated its strategic partnership with schools and universities for advancing the nation’s offspring and equipping the promising leaders of the future to assume frontline roles in steering sustainable economic development ahead. Dubai Customs maintains these aspirations by initiating and harbouring seminars, workshops and lectures, providing a fertile platform for university students in particular to get a broader understanding of customs work and DC’s key role in supporting national economy.

Executive Director of Policies and Legislation Division Saeed Ahmed Al Tayer received a  group of law students from the American University of Dubai (AUD), who attended an interactive workshop on Customs laws and procedures.

“We at Dubai Customs hold a deep belief in the importance of contributing to the comprehensive development of our community and the nation. This can only be attained in the proactive preparation of our sons and daughters to assume future leadership roles in a fast paced world in light of our nation’s post-oil economy phase, as dictated  by our wise government,” Al Tayer Said.

Director of the Legal Affairs Department Nirmeen Ahmed Issa provided  the students with a detailed presentation on the Common Customs Law of GCC States governing the customs work in GCC countries since 2002.

Fareeda Fadhil Director of Valuation Department touched upon  the basic principles for customs valuation of goods as per the World Trade Organization Valuation Agreement. She also presented the means for calculating the value of imported goods vs. customs tariff.

The meeting also included  a presentation on the laws and regulations governing the rules of origin of imported goods for the sake of filtering  exempted ones under the mandate of free trade agreements (FTAs) , presented by Mahfoudh Saeed, Head of Economic Agreement Unit.

At the end of the visit, Al Tayer provided the visiting future leaders with certifications of appreciation.
