Dr. Al Amiri: A strategic partnership between the Ministry of Health and the Private Pharmaceutical Sector in pharmaceutical innovation Pharmaceutical Companies Welcome the Ministry’s efforts to spread innovation Dubai UAE, November 25, 2015: As part of the UAE Innovation Week, the Ministry of Health is revealing a never-before innovative methodology for the pharmaceutical sector, at a celebration to be attended by His Excellency Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Health, to launch the newly developed medication package in cooperation with Globalpharma - A Sanofi Company on 26 November 2015, at Conrad Dubai Hotel. “The Ministry has planned its future strategy to promote the service standards in the pharmaceutical sector and in turn the welfare of the people through a sustainable health care system. We are building the pharmaceutical sector through our innovative legislation, regulations and measurable indicators which can be managed through a database to ensure medication quality and cement our support of innovation in the production of safe medication, given that the UAE is a regional hub for pharma companies,” said His Excellency Dr. Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for Medical Practice and License Sector in UAE Ministry of Health. Automate pharmaceutical products: H.E Dr. Al Amiri added that the government’s adoption of a new medication packaging is reinforcing UAE’s pioneering role in the pharmaceutical sector. “The packaging sets clear standards for the pharma products and institutionalizes pharmaceutical supply chain that electronically monitors medication through QR Codes. This step will simplify the process of obtaining medication, regulating doses and highlight appropriate storage methods through a free smartphone app.” Enabling the Visually Impaired: The newly developed medication package obliges drug manufacturers to include Arabic and English Braille on medication packages to benefit the visually disadvantaged people. This comes in line with the Ministry’s efforts to enable people with special needs to fulfill their pharmaceutical needs effortlessly. Track medication counterfeiting: The 2D Data Matrix protects the consumer from counterfeit medicines, especially herbal medicines for slimming and fertility treatment that are purchased via foreign websites. Welcomed by pharmaceutical companies: Dr. Al Amiri said that research centers and pharmaceutical companies have welcomed the Ministry’s circular observing that it meets their quality standards, raises confidence in pharmacological products and protects global pharmaceutical companies from counterfeited medicines.
