SHARJAH/Sharjah Media Centre: November 23, 2015-The Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) has taken over operations of the Sajaa oilfield located in Sharjah from Petrofac International after the five-year operation and maintenance contract previously signed between the two parties has expired.

The handover was made during a special ceremony that was held thismorning (November 23, 2015) at the Sharjah Petroleum Council. It was attended by HE Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Chairman of the Sharjah Petroleum Council and Chairman of the Sharjah National Oil Corporation, HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director General of the Office of the Chairman of the Sharjah Petroleum Council, EngWalid Rashid Khalifa Dimas, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Petroleum Council and CEO of the Sharjah National Oil Corporation, as well as representatives of Petrofac International.

As of December 01, 2015, SNOC will assume operation of the Sajaa oilfield, making the Government of Sharjah both the owner and administrator of the field. This unique achievement is expected to save costs and raise government revenue as it will increase the involvement of national cadres in this vital sector.

In October 2010, the Sharjah Petroleum Council awarded Petrofac International a five-year contract to operate and maintain the Sajaa field owned by SNOC. In collaboration with the latter, Petrofac made numerous achievements in the field of oil and gas extraction.

During the handover ceremony, HE Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Chairman of the Sharjah Petroleum Council and Chairman of the Sharjah National Oil Corporation, expressed his gratitude toPetrofac International and lauded their significant role in the economic development of Sharjah, as well as their adoption of the highest standards in the oil and gas sector.

For his part, Manivannan Rajapathy, Deputy Managing Director of Petrofac’s Offshore Projects & Operations business, expressed his pride in the contribution the company has made towardsthe production of gas and oil condensates in Sharjah and their achievement of the Emirate’s objectives in relation to the production of hydrocarbons from onshore fields.
