Beat Diabetes Initiative to Unveil Inspiring ‘Blue Champions’ Portrait Exhibition at Oasis Mall to Mark World Diabetes Day

Dubai-UAE: 11 November, 2015 - As part of its annual Beat Diabetes initiative, Landmark Group, the region’s leading retail and hospitality business, will unveil a special exhibition of portraits titled ‘Blue Champions’ at Oasis Centre on 13 November, World Diabetes Day,

The exhibition will showcase real-life champions, and their family and friends, who have supported them along the way. The champions include inspiring individuals of all age groups, from young energetic 10-year-old type 1 to wise and accomplished individuals, all who cope with the condition brilliantly. 

Captured by acclaimed photographer Siddharth Siva, the portraits in accents of white and blue (the international colour for diabetes awareness), celebrate the enduring spirit of the subjects and their continued success in managing the condition effectively with a disciplined and healthy lifestyle. 

The Oasis Centre mall, and its offering of lifestyle and healthy brands, will also host family-friendly activities on 13 and 14 November, as part of the Beat Diabetes initiative. In addition to interactive Fitness First workout demos and dancing sessions, visitors will also get to enjoy at the kids play zone and fitness zone at the family friendly mall. iCARE Clinics will also conduct free Blood Glucose testing at the venue. 

A themed photo booth will also encourage visitors to express their support to diabetes awareness by posing for photographs with family and friends against blue embellishments and props. The Beat Diabetes initiative invites the community to extend their virtual support by posting selfies wearing something blue and using the hashtags #beatdiabetes and #eathealthy. 

The Landmark Group has also partnered with the Al Jalila Foundation to raise funds to support diabetes research and healthcare in the UAE. A month-long fundraising drive conducted across all Landmark Group outlets will give UAE residents the opportunity to donate AED5 or its multiples, towards diabetes research. 

The registration fee of AED 20 for adults and AED10 for children (8-15 years) for the 2015 edition of the Beat Diabetes Annual Walkathon will also be earmarked to the Al Jalila Foundation.

The seventh Beat Diabetes walkathon will get underway at Dubai’s Zabeel Park on 20 November, 2015. Registrations for the walkathon will remain open online at www.beatdiabetes.me until 15 November. All registered participants will receive a walkathon kit comprising a Beat Diabetes T-shirt and cap via courier through Aramex, the official logistics partner for the walk.
