Dubai, United Arab Emirates, October 20, 2015:  The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) launched today at GITEX 2015, a diabetes management app that empowers Type1 and Type 2 diabetics to take control of their diabetes through easy self-management techniques.

The apps, known as, ‘Hayati’ is inspired by Windows 8 and is compatible with all platforms — Apple iOS, Google Android, Blackberry and Windows Mobile, among others. The app is free-of-cost and will be available by the end of November this year.

Amani Al Jassmi, Director of Information Technology at the DHA, said: “Given the high prevalence of diabetes in the country and the fact that self-management of diabetes makes a positive impact in controlling blood sugar levels, we felt that launching such an app will significantly benefit the community. Among the various features of the app, a particularly useful feature is that diabetics can directly transfer glucometer reading on to the app and if the patient is registered with a DHA health facility, results are automatically exported to the patient’s file.

“App users can also press the emergency tab and two registered family members as well as 999 will receive an immediate notification.”

The app can be customised and users can opt to receive daily reminders to take their medication, they will also get notifications if their blood sugar reading is low or high.

The app also provides useful information about diet tips, dos and don’ts to help keep blood sugar levels under control.

In addition to this app, the DHA also launched other apps at GITEX 2015, which are also free-of-cost and will be available by the end of November this year.

The other apps are:

Tifli (my baby) app:

The Tifli (my baby) app provides information for pregnant women from preconception until the baby is two years. App users can reschedule or cancel a doctor’s appointment, they have access to videos and articles on best practices during different stages of pregnancy, they can track their baby’s growth and weekly milestones, and they can monitor their labour pain and understand their contractions better so as to know when they should visit a hospital. They can also use the app to make an emergency call to their husband or registered family member.

App users will also have information about breastfeeding, ways to overcome breastfeeding difficulties, breastfeeding techniques and best nutritional practices.

Tashkhees app:  This app provides articles with useful medical information and is a means to empower the community through health education that will help them to adhere to healthier lifestyles so that we can reduce the burden of non-communicable lifestyle diseases.

Smart Mazad app: It is a smart bidding app for individuals or companies that want to participate in the bidding process to provide services to the DHA. The aim of the app is to make the process of health investment smart and convenient.

Updating DHA’s existing apps that are now compatible with Apple Watch.

DHA has also updated its existing apps and has added several new features for the convenience of app users.

The apps are now compatible with Apple Watch and users can access several app features on Apple Watch after syncing the two.

Sehaty (my health) app:

The Sehaty app provides a plethora of health services for patients and their families through their smart devices.

The apps have several features that allow users to view appointment details, check medical tests results and health card details. Moreover, users can search a facility and check their BMI (Body Mass Index)

One of the most prominent features of the app is that parents can view their children’s vaccination details. They can synchronize these details with their calendar to receive alerts every time their child’s vaccination is due.

Some of the other highlights include the ability to view lab results and appointments.

Patients can view prescriptions, get prescription alerts etc. The apps provide details of healthcare packages available for the public including women, men, teenagers and elderly heath packages- all of which can be requested for through the smartphones.

Dubai Doctors app:  This app enables users to search for a doctor, a health facility and have complete access to information about all public and private hospitals in Dubai, DHA primary health centres and DHA medical fitness centres.
