• Cancer is the third leading cause of death in the UAE
• Arab women rarely undergo regular screenings
• HAAD recommends women to take a mammogram every two years, after the age of 40

Abu Dhabi, UAE: 20 October, 2015 - Medeor 24x7 Hospital Abu Dhabi, located in the heart of Abu Dhabi, will be offering free screenings from 20th until 30th October to all women living in the capital, at the hospital on Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan the First Street. Women interested in free screening, can register by calling 800 900 600.

Cancer is the third leading cause of death in the UAE, following cardiovascular diseases and accidents. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in females in the UAE, with Arab nationals developing breast cancer at least a decade earlier than their counterparts in Western countries.

“Research has shown that due to cultural norms, many Arab women do not undergo regular medical examination and this usually result in late detections. Moreover, a majority tend to be screened only when they feel pain, which is often too late. So our goal as medical professionals is to encourage women to be screened regularly,” said Dr.Adil Ridha, a specialist in general surgery at Medeor 24x7 Hospital Abu Dhabi.

According to the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD), women under 40 should have physical and clinical check-ups regularly, and after the age of 40, women should request a mammogram every two years.

“At Medeor 24x7 Hospital Abu Dhabi we want to support women in making good health choices. Our free screenings to the female residents of Abu Dhabi is our contribution to the fight against breast cancer and we are calling on all women and their families to join us. Prevention is always better than any cure,”said Dr.Eman Samir, a specialist in gynaecology at Medeor 24x7 Hospital Abu Dhabi.
