August 13, 20154; Dubai, UAE: Eminent doctors and medico legal speakers will come together to discuss the recent advancement in infertility, high risk obstetrics and medico legal aspects of OBGYN practice in UAE at Ferticare 2015 conference to be held on August 16, 2015. The event will be held at Hotel Al Bustan Rotana, Dubai. Around a hundred doctors are expected to attend the conference where speakers will cover in detail topics including medico legal errors in clinical practice, tubal sterilization policies, infertility issues and the future of caesarian section among others. Attendees will have the opportunity to pick brains of senior doctors during stimulating question and answer sessions and benefit from the vast wealth of knowledge that will be imparted at the conference. A major concern for women in reproductive years, cases of infertility have increased noticeably in the UAE. News reports claim that more than 50,000 infertility cases have been reported with a significant rise in the number every year. A recent research states that generally, chances of conceiving after 40 years reduce by 50 to 60 percent, and by mid-40s they plunge to less than 3 percent. Another study report, titled, ‘The demand for fertility services in Dubai’ prepared by the DHA a few years ago, more than 9,000 women in the UAE will be seeking medical care for infertility by year 2030. Dr. Awatif Juma Al Bahar, Chairperson of Ferticare 2015, Chairperson of EOGFF, and a consultant in obstetrics, gynaecology and endocrine infertility at the Dubai Health Authority said: “While women over 30 years have difficulty conceiving, the chances for those who cross 40 reduce drastically. However, with new-age fertility treatments, pregnancy and eventually motherhood is entirely possible for older women. Today, besides conceiving naturally, there are quite a few methods, such as IVF and using donor eggs, available for those who have left motherhood for later in their lives. I would urge couples to seek medical help for early detection of infertility”. Dr Al Bahar will be speaking on the topic, Fertility Management above 40. The conference will also particularly focus on medico legal aspects of practicing OBGYN in UAE, where, for the first time medical practitioners of both public and private sector will come together to discuss this issue. According to a recent research, two out of every 10 doctors in the UAE face medico legal cases, pushing doctors to take necessary precaution in every case and to work within the legal framework Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud Sayed Ahmed, assistant legal advisor, DHA, will be elaborating on the Consequences of Medico-legal Errors in Clinical practice. With speakers from other countries, the event will give attendees global exposure to the world of medicine and help broaden their horizons. Among such notable guests, Dr. Nikhil C. Purandare, Consultant obstetrician and gynecologist, Gallway, Ireland, will speak at the event. His topic, Fibroid and infertility, will explore the ways in which fibroids can lead to infertility and the latest medical procedures that can be used to defeat it. Spokesperson for event organizers Minerva Events, and Obstetrician and Gynecologist, Dr Amala Nazareth added: “Infertility is a very real issue, facing a large population of women living in UAE as evident from statistics. Unfortunately a very small percentage opts for medical treatment, and that is what we would like to put across to people through this forum. With modern technological corrective measures, infertility is no longer incurable, and couples need to come out of their shell and explore all possible procedures that can help them conceive.” Dr Amala Nazareth will be discussing the Role of Hysteroscopy in infertility. The procedure entails inserting a thin tool, hysterosope, inside a women’s uterus to examine her. Among many other reasons, hysteroscopy is done in order to diagnose the causes of infertility or repeated miscarriages. It is largely used to detect uterine cavity defects, such as fibroid tumors, intrauterine scar tissue and endometrial polyps among others. The procedure is quite simple and requires little or no anesthesia with complications reported in less than 3 percent of the cases. Other speakers at the conference include Dr. Amal Al Mulla Consultant ObGyn DHA, Dr. Purnima Deb Consultant OBGYN CITY HOSPITAL who will be speaking on topics Tubal Sterilization Policies of DHA, Reducing Adverse Obstetric Outcomes through Safety Sciences and Caesarean Section - The Way Ahead, respectively. This program will also be addressed by Prof Dr. C. N. Purandare, President elect FIGO (International Federation of Obstetricians and Gynecologists). He will be speaking of the current trends and techniques in Ceserean Section and its future. Eminent leaders in the field of Ob/Gyn from several hospitals including Prof Dr Britt Clausson, Head of ObGyn, City Hospital, Dr Shiva Harikrishnan, Head ObGyn Medeor Hospital, Dr Vineeta Mohindra, from Lifeline Hospital, Dr Shamim Mir, Head Obgyn Prime Hospital to name a few shall be chairing these important sessions. The conference is organized by Minerva Events, in association with Emirates Obs-Gyne and Fertility Forum (EOGFF). The Ferticare conference, which has been accredited by the Ministry of Health, will serve as a build up to the EOGFF Conference to be held in 2016.
