Souq.com, the region’s largest online megastore, saw six million visits during its three-day White Friday sales bonanza, a ten-fold increase over normal traffic. The “White Friday” sale emulated the Black Friday event taking place at the same time in the Western world. Sunday, December 7, 2014, Dubai: Souq.com, the region’s largest e-commerce player, registered six million visits, 120,000 orders, and 246,000 sold items during its White Friday sales period, which took place between the 26th and 28th November this year. Souq.com is already the Middle East’s largest e-commerce player, and these results represent a ten-fold uplift to the e-tailer’s average daily sales. Ronaldo Mouchawar, CEO & Co-Founder of Souq.com says simply: “This is e-commerce history for this region.” White Friday, coined by souq.com, launched in November as a spin on Black Friday, and quickly caught on, with numerous other smaller online and bricks and mortar retailers in the region rapidly following suit and launching their own White Friday sales. Souq.com partnered with some of the world’s leading brands to bring White Friday to the region. The online retailer released deals on products from the likes of Apple from Etisalat and Du, Samsung, Sony PlayStation, Huawei, Xbox, Infinix, Injoo, Microsoft, Nokia Lumia, and Motorola. It also partnered with brands such as Mini from AGMC, and Qatar Airways and Pepsi to bring once in a lifetime value to its consumers. “Through partnering exclusively with some of the region’s top brands, we were able to bring some truly unbeatable deals to the table during White Friday. All exclusive deals with our partners were sold out within hours,” says Mouchawar. Souq.com also partnered exclusively with PepsiCo to offer mobile app users early access to the White Friday sale. Mobile commerce is a key focus for Souq.com, and the e-tailer saw 51% of all White Friday sales coming from mobile devices. White Friday was introduced for the first time this year, and following the success of the inaugural year, Souq.com has promised that White Friday will be an annual event.
