UAE B-Boys Aim to Break onto World Stage at Red Bull BC One UAE Cypher 2014

Dubai, 09 April 2014

UAE B-Boys will once again face off to crown the best among them in the Red Bull BC One UAE Cypher 2014. With the competition less than two weeks away, the B-Boys are now in full prep mode for the cypher set to take place at MusicHall on the 25th of April, 2014.

The competition will see 16 of the UAE’s finest B-Boys go head to head for the national title of the world’s premiere one-on-one B-Boy championship, after a local qualifying round that will determine who the finalists are. The workshop will take place at the Q Underground at Holiday Inn Al Barsha one day before the national cypher, under the watchful eyes of judges Cico, Ronnie and Lamine. The judging panel will base its decision on technique, innovation and dance flow.

The World Final will take place in the French capital for the first time since 2008. France is home to two past World Champions, Lilou (2005, Berlin; 2009, NYC) and Mounir (2012, Rio de Janeiro), and alongside the USA and South Korea, the country is frequently described as home to the best B-Boys on the planet. But to get to the World Final, the B-Boy representing the UAE will have to clear a big hurdle, the Regional Finals that are to be held in Algeria, featuiring the Middle East and Afrcia’s top 16 B-Boys.

Last year, B-Boy Omar and B-Boy Peppa were the last two B-Boys standing in the national final after three rounds of thrilling battles in which B-Boy BigMi, arguably the smallest B-Boy in the world, won the affection of the crowd and won the popular vote. Omar will certainly be one of the B-Boys to look out for this year, as usual, especially with the Regional Finals taking place in his own home country, Algeria. To date, none of the UAE Cypher winners has been able to clear that regional hurdle.

Since its birth in Switzerland 11 years ago, Red Bull BC One has become the premier competition in the world of B-Boying. It is not the first time the region hosts this competition during which competitors present a thrilling show with exquisite moves that require massive energy and powerful footwork, in addition to advanced techniques in dancing. Bringing together myriad styles, backgrounds and personalities, the Red Bull BC One Cyphers are sure to draw a wide range of the Regional’s fiercest competitors.

In order to continue this legacy, a team called Red Bull BC One All Stars was formed. They are a crew of internationally renowned dancers, representing the best of the best in the global B-Boy scene. The team started with 4 International professional B-Boys and later on increased to 10 dancers. Each of the crew members is an outstanding individual in their community and each brings a certain style, skillset and original movement to the group, from hardcore power moves to intricate footwork. The Red Bull BC One All Stars travel the world to give workshops, judge competitions, and share their knowledge of both Hip Hop culture and the incredible art form of B-Boying. In fact, judges Cico and Ronnie are 2 of the 10 Red Bull BC One All Stars.

Last year’s edition of The Red Bull BC One Championship attained unprecedented levels of success and popularity with the organization of 90 cyphers globally, and the participation of more than a 1000 B-Boys. During the 2013 tour, B-Boy Hong 10 of South Korea won the title in Seoul.
