Celebrating Art Dubai and Dubai's growing urban/pop art scene Dubai, UAE, 19th March 2014: In continued celebration of Dubai's burgeoning interest in the pop art movement, Al Quoz-based Courtyard Gallery took its current 'Pop Wall' exhibition to the public with a live demonstration of graffiti art at the JA Ocean View Hotel in Jumeirah Beach Residence. The event, which coincides with Art Dubai and the ongoing 'Pop Wall' exhibition held in Courtyard Gallery, took place on March 18, with two artists - Binty Bint and The Dotmasters - creating live artworks in front of gathered crowds. Children were also invited to express their creativity, with materials provided for them to contribute to an enormous collaborative drawing sheet. 'Dubai's pop and urban art scene is picking up at a rapid pace, with this exciting, fresh art form working its way into the emirate's creative heart,' said Samia Saleh, Courtyard Gallery's owner. 'Our Pop Wall exhibition is a celebration of urban art from across cultures. Bringing that art to the streets, where the public can watch it being created live in front of them, is an exciting way to raise interest in this dynamic genre.' Commenting on this event, Otto Kurzendorfer, General Manager for JA Ocean View Hotel said: “We are delighted to have partnered with Courtyard Gallery to host a unique event that saw talented artists displaying their colourful art around our property. Art has the ability to move people, and with this style of pop art, there is a key factor of interaction as even children were given canvases and colours to create with yesterday. The event was a great success and we hope to be more involved in the growing popularity of the urban pop art scene within the UAE”. Opened on March 16 to a phenomenal crowd and having enjoyed prolonged success since, Courtyard Gallery's Pop Wall exhibition is in collaboration with London's Graffik Gallery, and features creative masterpieces from nine artists of UK, Japan and Middle East origins. The exhibition is a nod to the growing popularity of the pop art scene in Dubai, and features acrylic and mixed media works, spray painted graffiti artworks, printed posters, and pop-themed purses. Courtyard Gallery is located in 4B Street in Al Quoz, Dubai - an area that is renowned for its artistic graffiti and pop art spots, following the Street Night Art event, held earlier this year The exhibition is open from 10am-6pm Sunday-Thursday, until April 17 2014.
