Seminars staged during event, including forum on role of postage stamps in promoting world peace
January 21, 2022: A large number of stamp and coin collectors and enthusiasts gathered on the second and third days of the ongoing ‘Emirates 2022 World Stamp Exhibition’ in Dubai to take part in the global event’s forums and activities. Hosted by Emirates Post Group in collaboration with the Emirates Philatelic Association, the exhibition will run until January 23, 2022 at the Dubai Exhibition Centre, Expo 2020 Dubai.
More than 175 exhibit from 27 countries in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Europe, America, and Oceania are featured at the prestigious event organized to put the spotlight on the role of postage stamps in human history and progress. Philatelists, or those who study and collect stamps, and numismatists, or the people who study or collect coins, make up the majority of visitors.
Seminars were also staged at the event which kicked off on January 19. Day two featured two learning sessions with Abdulla Khoory, President of the Emirates Philatelic Association, leading the first session on Dubai’s postal history from 1909 to 1948. Thomas Johansen, Head of Markets - Trading & Sales at Invest AD (Abu Dhabi Investment Company), discussed the stories behind the stamps issued in Dubai from 1963 to 1972 during the second session, including the Trucial States stamps released in 1970. Another seminar led by Dr. Ofir Winter, Researcher, INSS. Tel Aviv University was staged on day three of the event focused on how postal stamps could promote world peace.
Children visiting the exhibition have a chance to take part in the much-talked-about ‘Postcards to Space’ initiative launched by Emirates Post Group in partnership with Club for the Future, a private foundation established by Blue Origin, the UAE Space Agency, the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), and AzurX. Under this initiative, the young visitors will have a chance to own special postcards that will be sent to space, stamped, and returned to them.
