Royal Commission of Jubail & Yanbu Reclaim the Guinness World Record Title for ‘Largest Carpet of Flowers'

Dubai, UAE, 15 March, 2017:   During the opening of the 11th ‘Flower and Garden Festival’ in Yanbu, KSA, Guinness World Records, the global authority on record-breaking, has confirmed that the Royal Commission of Jubail & Yanbu has broken the Guinness World Record for the ‘largest carpet of flowers’.  

Reclaiming their title from 2014, The Royal Commission of Jubail & Yanbu commissioned the creation of the carpet for the event’s 11th edition comprising of approximately 1.8 million flowers, featuring flowers of different species, size and colour, including petunias and marigold flowers. The total area of the flower carpet is 16,134.0772 sq m. made up of 14 different types and colours of natural flowers. 

Commenting on the record, Talal Omar, Guinness World Record’s Country Manager - MENA, said: “We are very excited that the Royal Commission of Jubail and Yanbu reclaimed its 2014 title to win it back this year. The ‘Flower and Garden Festival’ is an annual event that takes place in Yanbu, KSA, and it aims to beautify and decorate the industrial city, in addition to providing more recreational activities for the residents and visitors to Yanbu. It also gives visitors an opportunity to be exposed to thousands of different flower species while providing a learning experience about protecting the environment. Millions of visitors from Yanbu, Yanbu Al-Bahr, Medina, Jeddah, Tabuk and other parts of the Kingdom visit this flower festival every year including students from more than 300 schools in Yanbu, Medina, Yanbu Al-Bahr and Jeddah. 

Engr. Saleh Abdullah Al-Zahrani, Director General of Operation and Maintenance and CEO for 11th Flowers and Garden Festival added, “We encourage kids to plant their own flowers and take them home. All things related to gardening are available at the show while Saudis and expatriates have congratulated the royal commission for organizing the festival.”
