Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, October 28, 2015: This weekend, the UAE’s racing fans can enjoy the first in a series of competitive weekends of local motorsport at the home of the FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX. Friday 30thand Saturday 31stOctober sees the return of the popular Yas Racing Series, held under the umbrella of Yas Motor Racing Club. Supported once again by Toyota Racing Development (TRD), the TRD 86 Cup is a single-make, sustainable local motor sport initiative introduced by Yas Marina Circuit in 2014 and was created to enable amateur racers to drive in a professional, competitive environment. This year, the TRD 86 Cup competition will be even more fierce, with the addition of brand new entrants on the starting grid, as well as familiar faces from 2014. The 13 local racers will this year be competing across two categories, depending on experience. Those with previous experience can sign up for the ‘Gold’ category, with novices driving in the ‘Silver’ category. The TRD 86 Cup will run across six race days from October until April next year and allows those who have dreamed of professional racing to lead their very own race team in real competition. In addition to TRD 86 Cup, Yas Racing Series also includes the Formula Gulf 1000, the UAE’s national single-seater championship, featuring cars with identical slicks and wings, as well as the well established favourites of the NGK Racing Series and the MRF Racing Series - both returning to thrill spectators in 2015-16. “We are delighted to welcome back Yas Racing Series again,” said Al Tareq Al Ameri, CEO of Yas Marina Circuit. “As last season proved, there is a big demand for locally sourced motorsport competition here in the UAE, and with the TRD 86 Cup back with an even bigger grid and the addition of new categories, Yas Marina Circuit is facilitating the development of new talent and constantly evolving its offering. Perennial favourites such as the Formula Gulf 1000, NGK and MRF Racing Series will also be making a comeback this weekend, giving spectators a wide variety of choice and on-track excitement. We look forward to welcoming you.” With a ticket for Friday and Saturday’s full day of events costing only AED25 per person, it’s great value for all members of the family.
