“Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” - Coco Chanel Living in modern fast-paced cities and witnessing how our world has transformed to such an advanced state, we sometimes let the busy-ness of life distract us from noticing the beauty of the world around us. Renowned Polish-American architect and artist Daniel Libeskind once said, “Cities are the greatest creations of humanity.” We couldn’t agree more. The bright city lights and skylines by night along with the busy roads and intersecting arteries of our metropolis by day, are our spring board for the season. Inspired by an urban landscape, monochrome shades of neutral color such as Concrete, Steel Grey and Midnight Blue are coupled yet sharply contrasted with rich primary hues like Soho Red, Sunset Yellow and Electric Blue to form our color palette for the season. We see it as a way of unifying the concrete jungle and the bustling life that lives in it. There is harmony in this conflict and it gives the collection a whole new perspective. The prints, devised from the architecture of our living space, carry deeper meaning. Aerial views of inter connected highways and junctions, reminiscent of Tokyo’s metro lines and the Shuto Expressway have been reduced to linear formations of varying thickness in our Highway print, while New York’s bustling city nightlife has been imagined in geometric prints in our City Lights print. A close look at modern urban architecture leads to paneling and diagonal seaming details, architectural and asymmetrical silhouettes and methodical structured drapes on waistbands and necklines. The play of different fabric textures gives additional depth to design - marrying structured materials such as two-toned bonded felt or triacetate, leather and textured tweeds with more fluid materials such as suede, silk twill, organza and crepe. A leather and suede paneled jacket is worn over an asymmetric draped skirt, a coated cable knit is paired with a tweed skirt with diagonal fringe, while Kimono wraps and Alpaca capes are combined with extended culottes to offer a contemporary silhouette for the modern urban woman. In a busy city, day and night merge- clear crystal beaded straps and trims, perfect for a night out, simulate the glistening reflection of the city’s electrifying skyline on the waters.
There is no way the world will stop moving forward. But if we just pause to take a closer look at our cities, we may discover more things than we thought we would. There is energy in the city, and this time, Raoul sees it. Key Fabrics:
