Ministry of Economy Holds Collaborative Talks with Office of United States Trade Representative

Abu Dhabi-UAE: 22 September, 2014 – His Excellency Jumaa Al Kait, Assistant Undersecretary for Foreign Trade Affairs, Ministry of Economy, today received an official trade delegation from the Office of the United States Trade Representative led by Jason Buntin, Director for Western Europe and Middle East Affairs.

During the meeting, the Assistant Undersecretary updated the visiting delegation of developments within the UAE economy, highlighting the UAE government’s efforts to advance the economic status of the country regionally and globally.

The two sides addressed a number of economic and trade issues, focusing on the Trade Facilitation Agreement, a WTO protocol that aims to ease trade and eliminate the possible barriers in international trade between different countries. Both sides expressed intent to continue strengthening bilateral trade.

According to the Office of the United States Trade Representative, the UAE is the 30th largest trading partner for the US with goods worth US$26.9 billion traded in 2013.
