Gourmet ties up with the esteemed local café chain in a mass community effort to save lives In conjunction with the GCC’s favourite food magazine, Gourmet, PappaRoti’s 5th Anniversary will be celebrated with the humanitarian effort of raising funds for breast cancer research with a Pink Bake-off. The concept behind the event is to generate awareness within the community, by creating a platform for everyone to get involved, raise funds and save lives. The two-part event which is due to take place on the September 18 at The Dubai Mall is set to gauge mass awareness to the campaign given its prime location in the world’s ultimate shopping destination. The first part of the competition will see contestants judged against a wide range of criteria that includes speed of sales, presentation and taste, which will be judged by a panel for the baked goods that they will prepare at home and sell, to raise funds. The two winners of the bake sale will then go head-to-head in a MasterChef style live bake-off battle, with the task of having to create three versions of the PappaRoti bun. After the finalists’ efforts are judged, the winner’s creation will be sold in select PappaRoti stores throughout the month of October, with all funds going to breast cancer research. Additionally, the winner will walk away with a Dhs35,000 prize which includes Dhs25,000 worth of jewellery from F R Hueb Jewellery, a spa day for the winner and nine of their friends at the Saray Spa at the esteemed JW Marriott Marquis, a pink stand mixer from Tavola and professional cake decorating classes. The event is also backed by The Dubai Mall and the American Hospital Dubai, already displaying the strength of this community effort. “PappaRoti is always committed to its corporate social responsibility to create a shared value within its community,” said PappaRoti Café chairperson Rasha AlDhanhani. “We are excited to tie in our humanitarian effort with the region’s favourite food magazine, Gourmet, to celebrate our fifth anniversary and extend our support to this honourable cause.” Gourmet editor Jasmine Bandali who has organised the Pink Bake-off for breast cancer said, “We are extremely excited about the forthcoming event on 18 September. We have received an overwhelming response, with everyone wanting to get involved and get baking to save a life. “In conjunction with PappaRoti, this initiative has also received amazing support from the region’s most notable organisations. We hope to raise as many funds as possible to prevent any family having to go through the loss of a loved one due to this terrible disease.” Rasha AlDhanani added, “I believe that every individual and organisation can play a vital role in supporting such important causes in our society. “We at PappaRoti extend our absolute support and dedication to help raise funds for breast cancer research and raising awareness on the importance of early detection and regular self-examination.” The Gourmet Pink Bake-off will take place at PappaRoti’s 2ndFloor Dubai Mall location on 18 September 2014.
