Tadweer GM Highlights Strategic Plans, Key Initiatives, Focus Areas and KPIs until 2030

Abu Dhabi-UAE: 14 September, 2014 - His Excellency Eisa Saif Al Qubaisi, General Manager of Tadweer (Center of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi), has presented an overview of Tadweer and its strategic development plan until 2030 at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology campus in Abu Dhabi.

Attended by Dr Fred Moavenzadeh, President, Masdar Institute, Dr. Ahmed D. Aljaberi, Assistant Professor, Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department, faculty members, and students, the presentation highlighted Tadweer’s efforts to promote sustainable development in Abu Dhabi through the implementation of a waste management master plan.

His Excellency Al Qubaisi pointed out that Tadweer is working to develop an integrated waste management system that ensures the development of solutions while overseeing the maintenance, operation and processing of waste in a safe, efficient and economically viable manner. As a first step towards achieving this objective, Tadweer has geographically segregated its area of work into three major regions namely Abu Dhabi City including the adjacent islands, Al Ain City and the Western Region.

Explaining the critical role played by Tadweer in supporting the core objectives set by the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, His Excellency Al Qubaisi said Tadweer aims to continue investing in infrastructure that facilitates the advanced treatment, recovery and disposal of waste. He added that the entity is simultaneously working to upgrade the legal waste management framework, while raising awareness among consumers and producers of waste about the advantages of reducing, reusing and recycling waste.

His Excellency Al Qubaisi outlined Tadweer’s community-centric initiatives, focus areas, and key performance indicators between 2015 and 2030. He highlighted the company’s efforts at segregating waste collection from source, optimizing the recycling system, mitigating municipal solid waste (MSW) generation, reducing construction and demolition (C&D) waste generation, and diverting agricultural waste from landfill.

Dr Fred Moavenzadeh said: “As a post-graduate research institution focused on sustainability, advanced technology and clean energy systems, Masdar Institute commends the projects initiated by Tadweer in waste management. With the support of the UAE leadership, Masdar Institute has evolved into one of the leading institutions that can drive research in sustainability-related areas. We believe His Excellency Al Qubaisi’s presentation shed light on some of the key aspects of Tadweer’s operations, offering our students and faculty definite scope to further expand research'.

Dr Ahmed Al Jaberi said: “The presentation by His Excellency Al Qubaisi’s offered significant insights into the long-term strategy, objectives and operational aspects of waste management adopted by Tadweer. Their time-based approach will surely create the right conditions to not only reduce waste but obtain great benefits, especially in generating new routes of recycling. The recent research collaboration between Masdar Institute and Tadweer further reflects the close cooperation of key stakeholders in Abu Dhabi that will help build a sustainable future for the community in the emirate.'

Concluding his presentation, His Excellency Al Quabisi encouraged the faculty members to leverage the advanced research facilities available at Masdar Institute for the development of innovative solutions that address Abu Dhabi’s unique challenges in waste management and sustainable development.
