Ministry of Economy Discusses Cooperation with Indian State of Gujarat

•    Delegation Invites UAE Minister of Economy to Participate in ‘Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2015’ 
•    India is Largest Trading Partner for UAE with US$38 Billion in Non-oil Trade in 2013

Abu Dhabi-UAE: 10 September, 2014 - His Excellency Jumaa Al Kait, Assistant Undersecretary for Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economy, today received an official trade delegation from the Indian state of Gujarat. The delegation was headed by Shri BB Swain, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), a government of Gujarat undertaking. The two sides primarily discussed ways to boost economic and trade ties.  

His Excellency Al Kait stressed the importance of bilateral relations between the UAE and India at all levels, and said: “Non-oil trade between the two countries surpassed US$38 billion in 2013, making India the UAE’s largest trading partner in the region. This figure reiterates the strength and depth of bilateral economic ties. We believe new opportunities are opening up every day to further drive mutual cooperation across various economic and investment sectors.”

During the meeting, the Assistant Undersecretary highlighted the UAE’s enabling economic landscape, transparent business legislations and leading position in many global economic and trade indices. Al Kait also provided the visiting delegation with an overview of the UAE’s strong economic capabilities and unique investment climate. 

For its part, the Indian delegation extended an official invitation to His Excellency Sultan Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, to attend the seventh Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2015 that is scheduled to be held in January. The summit is expected to attract officials and business leaders from more than 120 countries and offers an ideal opportunity for exploring investment opportunities. Focusing on ‘Inclusive Development’ as its primary focus area, the summit will also highlight key aspects such as innovation, sustainability, youth, skills, knowledge-sharing, and networking.
