The Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel Dubai team came out in full force to raise awareness about Autism and help integrate special children in the community as they participated in the “Walk for Autism” held at Zabeel Park, Dubai.

Organised by the Child Early Intervention Medical Centre, the sixth annual Walk for Autism marked the International Autism Awareness Month, which fell in the month of April. Supported by UAE Red Crescent, the walk was held in collaboration with Dubai Health Care City and Dubai Municipality.

Scott Butcher, General Manager of the Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel Dubai, said that his team’s participation was aimed at spreading awareness about Autism and integration of children affected with Autism in the mainstream society by educating the public about this neuro-developmental disorder.

“We supported the initiative because such serious endeavours create the much-needed exposure to bring the cause to the forefront. Our colleagues were in good spirits and full of enthusiasm when they joined thousands of people from all walks of life to raise the awareness, which is quite important because diagnosis of Autism is based on behaviour, not cause or mechanism. They were quite satisfied as they made efforts for a noble cause,” he said.

Autism is one of the most common developmental disorders diagnosed in the recent times. Some of the symptoms of seen in an autistic child are impaired social interaction, problems with verbal and nonverbal communication, unusual, repetitive, or severely limited activities and interests.

Butcher pointed out that the road to recovery for Autism is quite long and needs concerted efforts from everyone to ensure that no child walks alone.

The Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel Dubai staff frequently participate in such initiatives to show that the community stands together towards a cause, be it joining the entrants for the walkathon in aid of raising awareness of the genetic disorder, breast cancer, diabetes or just to promote the benefits of a healthier lifestyle. The hotel has also been making great strides in checking its carbon footprint by incorporating best environmental practices.
