Beach Rotana takes part in the Earth Day 2014 through Battle of the Bottles and Recycling workshop Abu Dhabi, April 21, 2014 – Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network and celebrated in more than 192 countries each year. To express support for environmental protection on Earth Day 2014, Beach Rotana participated in the Battle of the Bottles held on 22 April at Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan Abu Dhabi by Rotana. “The Battle of the Boat” is a recyclable boat race event organised to raise awareness of disposal and recycling made up of simple materials and is easy to make, it is good for the environment and useful in the future. The mechanics of this event is each hotel can form a team to build a boat that can be raced by at least two team members by using their hands, legs or paddles for locomotion. It is a unique event which featured an adrenalin-pumping action to support the Earth Day. Seven of the Rotana properties competed in this race. Another great initiative was the Earth and Recycling workshop held at the Beach Club. Beach Rotana hosted the Abu Dhabi's "paper bag boy", known as Mukku. He has become famous for being an environmental crusader with a mission to save waste by turning old newspapers into shopping bags. Mukku won an Abu Dhabi Award last year for his environmental work and he shared his knowledge about the environment, different ideas to save Earth and he showed how to make recycled paper into shopping bags to the 20 students of British International School in Abu Dhabi. Commenting on the above Mr. Jörg A. Hauri, General Manager of Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi said: “We are proud to be part of this Earth Day activity. On Earth Day we have the possibility to celebrate the importance of contributing to the wellbeing of our planet, working hand in hand as a team.”
