Fashion Forward Collection Notes - Friday 11th April

15.00 Starch

Timi Hayek:

“This is a Spring/Summer 14 collection for women who want a comfortable, modern, young, fresh and chic look. I combined stripes, pleats and prints in monochrome, ivory and navy blues, with raw edges and hints of sheer fabric. The collection will consist mainly of tops, skirts and dresses. The hand drawn digital prints in this collection are inspired by L’Apres midi d’un Faune, a 1912 dance performance by Les Ballets Russes, where the legendary Vaslav Nijinsky plays the role of a young faun who pursues a group of forest nymphs.”

Jo Baaklini:

Atelier Jo Baaklini's debut collection features strong colours and graphic prints on clean, classic cuts. Inspired by spring and summer in the warm climes of the Levant and Gulf, it is fun, fresh and considered with an attention to detail.

16.30 Kage

KAGE’s longing and inspiration is their own ardent attachment to a scene that takes you back to 1983, more specifically a new year’s party. The collection stays true to the KAGE girl, the girl who loves freely and thinks for her own. She is un-KAGED and all that ultimately exists is the energy and inspiration she derives from those elements of the past that are valued and loved. The result is a timeless re-worked collection.

18.00 The Emperor 1688 – presented by Saks Fifth Avenue

This Fall Winter 2014 The Emperor 1688 looks to the relationship of Victoria and Albert in their retreat in Balmoral castle in Scotland. The collection is a contemporary take on traditional country looks using Scottish wools, tweeds and tartan. The focus of the collection is the transition of the men’s collection which is synonymous with The Emperor 1688 to the launch of the ready to wear women’s collection. The Golkar brothers love and are fascinated with traditional English tailoring which is something that was used as the starting point for this collection.

19.00 JLS

Jean Louis Sabaji’s collection takes inspiration from nature. JLS transforms his gowns into a garden of exquisite and unique blooms, a magical fusion of flowers and insects. Spring is a time of renewal, youth and vibrant new life is outlined in this collection by the blossoming of a valley flushed with colours and silky textures. Handcrafted techniques are used to imitate the foliage of a garden. Colours are taken from Mother Nature expressed throughout a gradation from raspberry to light pink, yellow to orange, white to beige. There is an interaction of all elements from the smallest insects to the rarest flowers. Branches are braided on the dresses from one side, and blooming into flowers on the other side. Fabrics are light as petals, garnished with 3D flowers, insects and fruits creating a sense of movement, echoed in the swinging volumes of the gowns.

20.30 Asudari

This collection features elements of masculine tailoring with sporty, feminine silhouettes, sharp suiting, geometric digital prints and Asudari's signature emblem, the formation of four interfacing A's all in a Delftware ceramic palette.

21.30 Ezra

For inspiration, Ezra looks up to the celebrated French designer Erte, Christian Lacroix, John Galliano as well as the original Monsieur Christian Dior. For over a decade, Dubai-based Ezra has been consistently making his mark, creating dreamy, extravagant couture, establishing his brand as synonymous to elegance and beauty. His designs are known for their buoyant, diaphanous and exquisite edge, with finely crafted embellishments.
