Welcome speeches were made by the general manager of Pullman Dubai Deira City Centre hotel Mr. Laurent Chaudet, the owner of Art Hub Mr. Ahmed Al Yafei, and by Mr. Denis Douveneau the Director of InstitutFrançais in the UAE. The speeches were followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony marking the official opening of the event and Michel Bizet painting.

“We are very happy about the commencement of the Pullman Resident Artist Initiative with Michel Bizet” commented Mr. Chaudet, “The works displayed here today are “Abstract Impressionism” that beautifully captures nature and landscapes that the artist was exposed too during his stay in the UAE. This is the first of many more unique exhibitions that Pullman Dubai Deira City Centre will be hosting throughout the year. The initiatives’ aim is to provide a platform for contemporary artists from the Middle East and those who are inspired by the Middle East to be hosted in a public platform to promote and bring contemporary art to the people, each for the duration of a one month residency.”

“I am deeply satisfied to have initiated this trilateral partnership between Pullman hotel, Abu Dhabi Art Hub and Institut Français” commented Institut Français Director, Mr. Denis Douveneau. “Michel Bizet has been kind enough to accept the proposal I made last year to do live painting during Abu Dhabi Art. This second opportunity is as exciting as the first one since a violinist is accompanying his neoimpressionist work” he added.

The guests broke into applause as the painting Michel Bizet has created was finished, and when asked about the painting the artist commented that the painting was inspired by the Dubai skyline, which was easily recognized by the ragged Burj impressions going through the centre of the painting, that reach out to a royal blue sky from desert dunes rich with the colours of a vibrant city.

“It is an honour being the first resident artist with Pullman Dubai Deira City Centre hotel, who are offering the platform and means of showcasing contemporary art to the public. It was also a pleasure working on this piece to the melodies of Mr. Mohamad Hamami,” commented the artist, Michel Bizet.

One of the unique aspects of the painting was the medium used to paint on. Instead of the traditional canvas, the artist chose to paint on plexiglass, turning the piece into two paintings in one. Where one side of the painting is rich with texture of the paint coming out from the painting, the other side shows a smooth texture that is rich with the impressions of the paint.

Michel Bizet exhibition is running from March 13th to April 12th 2014 at Pullman Dubai Deira City Centre hotel and all are welcome to attend.
