Dubai, UAE, November 21st, 2013 - The second edition of Babyshop Puzzle 2013:the Biggest Inter School Quiz Challenge in UAE saw the smartest quizzing brains across schools in UAE compete against each other, under one umbrella. The event was held on 17th November at Knowledge Village Auditorium. Over 300 teams from schools across UAE participated in Babyshop Puzzle 2013. Students were divided into 2 categories - Junior: Grade 6 to Grade 8 and Senior: Grade 9 & above. The atmosphere was electrifying with teams from Schools vying for the top honours. There was a round dedicated to the teachers & parents who were accompanying the teams that saw them winning tablets from Eurostar. The involvement of the teachers & the Principal with their respective teams was commendable & praiseworthy and was a key factor for the grand success of this initiative. Though it was extremely competitive, there were questions that kept the audience on their toes and gave them an opportunity to participate & win as well. Some of the questions in the Junior Category were 1) I can be told, I can be played. I can be cracked, and I can be made. What am I? (Ans : Joke) ; 2) What Olympic sport prohibits the wearing of a beard? (Ans:Boxing); 3) On which day of the year are hot cross buns traditionally eaten?(Ans: Good Friday) while the Senior Category had 1) Which insect accurately indicates the air temperature? (Ans: Cricket) ; 2) What is the only word in English ending in the letters 'mt'? (Ans: dreamt) ; 3) Give a 6 letter word which has no vowel? (Ans: Rhythm) ; 4) When does an British Potato changes its nationality? (Ans: When it becomes French fries) The Prelims consisting of 30 written questions saw 6 teams each from the Junior & Senior Category making it to the Grand Finale. The purpose of the quiz was to test the participants on a gamut of subjects consisting of General Awareness, Riddles, Music, Films, Academics, Sports, etc. In the Junior Category, the team consisting of Anagha Rajesh & Sanjana Menon from Our Own English High School (Girls), Sharjah walked away with the top honors while the Senior Category saw the team consisting of Pratik Ravi & Balaji Shankar from Abu Dhabi Indian School emerged as the winner. The Winner besides receiving Medallion & trophy, won tablets from Eurostar and an opportunity to feature on ZEE TV & Josh FM. Reena Banerjee, Founder and Idea Director at Big Idea who conceptualised the initiative, said the idea behind the quiz was to provide a platform to students to test their knowledge on an array of subjects and to help them learn the spirit of positive competiveness. We are delighted to see the initiative grow bigger & better with every passing year and the overwhelming response from schools & our partners – Babyshop, Emax, Zee TV, Almarai, Tiffany, Eurostar,& Josh FM.
