1971 Productions, a leading Dubai film production house, is proud to present an unusual educational documentary series chronicling the rise, fall and evolution of Arabic fusion music. Charting the past 20 years of development, while examining the historical links between the Middle East and Africa, the documentary named “The Heart and Soul of Arabic RnB” follows the development and progression of mainstream Arabic pop music from the 1990s up until today. Using a combination of archival video footage and exclusive interviews with some of North Africa and the Middle East's most innovative artists and performers, the documentary which was originally intended to be a one off feature film, will now be presented as a series of short episodes scheduled to begin airing online in late 2013. Prior to the airing of these episodes, 1971 Productions will be releasing a series of informative 2-minute outtakes from the documentary itself, in the form of visual vignettes, starting from the beginning of September 2013. ‘The Heart and Soul of Arabic RnB is a unique series.' said the series producer and Gulf Arabic musician Ammar Al Rahma. “Over the past 10 years the media has done a good job in highlighting the growth of fusion music from rock to flamenco, but no one has truly looked at the core musical components of traditional Arabic music itself, much of which have the same roots as modern R&B and urban music; it has just evolved differently.” Abdullah Yahya, Managing Director of 1971 Productions added: “This documentary series is far from commercial and purely educational in intent, and that is why we are happy to be developing this one of a kind project. Many of the artists who have participated so far have spoken off camera on the importance of such a documentary, because the subject has simply never been highlighted from this angle before.' He added “Our decision to make this into a serialized presentation is due to the increased interest in the project from regional musicians and experts who have asked to participate upon hearing about it – thus turning this project into an ongoing one.” 1971 Productions is an Emirati Dubai media production house operating out of the UAE that is involved in a variety of creative media related projects.
