Representatives from Dubai Science Park and Dubai Health Authority emphasise importance of public-private partnerships to advance local healthcare industry

Dubai-UAE: 23 April, 2018 - Dubai Science Park (DSP), a holistic science-focused community, hosted its latest Business Partner Breakfast at the community’s Laboratory Complex, with this edition highlighting the benefits that public-private partnerships (PPPs) can provide in developing Dubai’s healthcare sector.

Drawing the participation of more than 50 healthcare professionals from the government, academia and business, the regularly-held event welcomed speakers from Dubai Health Authority, Open Health and Synapse Medical Services.

Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, Executive Director of Dubai Science Park and Chairing Member of the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Equipment Taskforce of the Dubai Industrial Strategy 2030, said: “We have been a long-standing advocate of public-private partnerships and a cheerleader of enabling platforms such as today’s event that aims to bring the many healthcare stakeholders on one table.

“Personally, I believe public-private partnerships hold great value for society and offer incredible opportunities for governments and private companies, fostering innovation and entrepreneurism through optimising processes and management structures.”

Dr Ibtesam Al Bastaki, Director of Health Operation at Dubai Health Authority, said: “Government entities have traditionally been the primary providers of healthcare services in Dubai. The introduction of PPP laws has shifted the paradigm and the landscape is evolving.
Today, Dubai is a leading investment destination. Building on this momentum, the government is looking at private partnerships in the healthcare sector for faster execution of projects, efficient management of resources, lower operational costs and access to best-in-class technology and clinical capacities for the benefit of the patients.”

Serving as a launch pad for Advance Health, Dubai Science Park has joined forces with Synapse, a medical administration service provider, and Open Health, a healthcare communications and market access group to create a new networking platform for leading healthcare professionals.

Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, said: “We are very excited to enter into this new partnership with Synapse and Open Health. The synergy will add to our portfolio of existing thought-leadership events designed to enhance the business environment for our partners operating in the DSP community.”

The Business Partner event is the latest in a series organised by Dubai Science Park. Next on its agenda is the 9thGreen Leadership Series in May that seeks to promote Dubai’s transition to a green and low-carbon future.
