Paris-Roubaix, also known as the Hell of the North, is the third monument of the cycling season and considered by some to be the most exciting race in cycling calendar and is the climactic end of a series of Cobbled Classics races including the Tour of Flanders, E3 Harelbeke and Gent-Wevelgem. Paris-Roubaix, known as the 'Queen of the Classics' and 'Hell of the North', was inaugurated in 1896, making it one of the oldest bike races in the world. . The 2017 Paris-Roubaix 257 km route contains 29 cobbled sectors totaling 55 km, including the most awaited sectors- the Tranchée d’Arenberg, Mons-en-Pévèle and the Carrefour de l’Arbre. Speaking ahead of Paris-Roubaix, UAE Team Emirates Sporting Director Mario Scirea commented: “This is possibly one of the most difficult and feared races amongst every rider but we have full confidence in the ability of the team. It is an important race on the calendar and winning at such a presitgious and renonwned Cobbled Classic is huge. This is the most unpredictable race of the season, anything can happen.” After placing sixth at the Tour of Flanders, Sacha Modolo will participate in Paris-Roubaix replacing Laengen who crashed earlier this week at the Tour Flanders. Commenting ahead of Paris-Roubaix UAE Team Emirates rider, Sacha Modolo said: “Paris-Roubaix is completely different from the Tour of Flanders: I can’t say I have very fond memories of the last time I raced at Paris-Roubaix! I was involved in a crash that resulted in two broken ribs. Despite that I am quite glad I get to race it again and have a second opportunity to achieve a better result. I am in good form and will channel that in order to support the team. There's nothing quite like Paris-Roubaix a race that is nearly impossible to predict.” Participating in Paris-Roubaix is a UAE Team Emirates’ lineup of strong Italian riders: Sacha Modolo, Marco Marcato
