Abu Dhabi, UAE, September 14, 2016: Emerging Emirati leaders in the space industry attended NASA’s OSIRIS-REx launch at Cape Canaveral, Florida in the United States as part of Lockheed Martin’s (NYSE: LMT) Generation Space: Space Fundamentals Training Program. Established in partnership with the UAE Space Agency and Mubadala, this program for early career professionals across the UAE aerospace industry includes training in the United Arab Emirates and the United States. Participants are currently completing the U.S.-based segment of the program hosted by Lockheed Martin, which immerses participants in the U.S. space industry. In addition to attending the OSIRIS-REx launch, participants are shadowing U.S. space professionals, touring Lockheed Martin’s virtual reality engineering lab, and seeing satellite production facilities. The OSIRIS-REx spacecraft will travel to Bennu, a near-Earth asteroid, and use a robotic arm to bring a small sample back to Earth for study. OSIRIS-REx will be the first U.S. mission to carry samples from an asteroid back to Earth.
