  • Rubens Hannun: Gulfood is a great platform to increase trade and investment flow between Brazil and Arab countries to newfound heights.

February 13, 2020 – A host of Brazilian companies are finalizing preparations ahead of their participation at Gulfood 2020, the world’s largest annual food and beverage exhibition, where firms from around the world will throw the spotlight on a comprehensive range of products from 16-20 February at Dubai World Trade Centre. Gulfood serves as an interactive venue that will further strengthen Brazil’s ties with its Arab trade partners and Brazilian companies will exhibit items including beef and poultry, biscuits, sweets, fruits, açaí, pasta, honey, juice, coconut water, coffee and sugar.

Ahead of Gulfood 2020, the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) and Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) held recently the “Food and Beverage Exports to the Gulf Countries” seminar in São Paulo; an event recommended for businesses interested in selling their food products to the region as well as companies whose involvement is already confirmed.

Rubens Hannun, President of the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, said: “Gulfood is one of the most important events in terms of both the food industry and Brazil-Arab economic relations, and being aware of the latest industry trends and developments is key to establishing an edge in the regional and global food markets. Brazil has increased its presence every year, introducing more and more companies to the global market in the process, and this year more than 100 Brazilian entities have confirmed their participation.”

He continued: “The ABCC has always been a long-time participant for Gulfood, which continues to serve as the perfect platform to increase trade and investment flow between Brazil and Arab Countries to newfound heights. Our pavilion is expected to throw the spotlight on ABCC members and their latest products at their own booths. Gulfood 2020 will open new avenues for collaboration while generating fresh leads that result in significant growth opportunities, and the exhibition is a platform to invite more Arab companies and officials to participate in Arab International Fair and Brazil-Arab Countries Economic Forum. We look forward to the outcomes from the event and witnessing them come to fruition in the coming months and years.”

Brazilian exports to Arab countries reached USD 12.197 billion in 2019, registering a 6.3 percent growth from 2018, while Brazilian chicken meat exported to the Arab world amounted to 1.49 million tons at a value of USD 2.38 billion at 1.49 million tons. For bovine meat, the Arab world imported a total of USD 1.17 billion at 354.5 thousand tons.
