Family balancing cases have gone up by 22 percent from 2018

Abu Dhabi, UAE, 21 Aug. 2019: The number of couples in the UAE undergoing the In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) procedure for family balancing is growing at a steady pace. According to IVI Middle East Fertility Clinic, the number of family balancing cases handled by them has gone up displaying a notable increase of 22 percent.
“Family balancing allows couples to select the gender of the baby. Sometimes, even those who already have children choose to undergo the required medical procedures to ensure achieving a gender balance in their families.

This is done through IVF along with Pre-implantation Genetic Testing (PGT), a procedure used to evaluate the chromosomes of the embryo, hence to determine the gender of the embryo prior to implantation. PGT is also a technique used to scan an embryo for genetic problems before it is transferred into the uterus through IVF,” said Prof. Dr. Human Fatemi, Subspecialist Reproductive Medicine and Reproductive Surgery, and Medical Director of IVI Middle East Fertility Clinic.

The IVI Middle East Fertility Clinic has handled many such cases recently. One of these cases involved an Arab couple from Libya, who were in their 30s and already parents to four beautiful and healthy baby girls. The couple visited IVI Fertility Clinic on a family friend’s recommendation and met Prof. Fatemi. They instantly knew that they were in good hands. The process was explained to them thoroughly and IVF was carried out successfully.

“Many parents have a strong desire to have a balanced family with equal number of male and female children, and family balancing has paved the way for many couples to achieve this dream. As for the Libyan couple, two healthy male embryos were selected after a series of techniques such as PGT, which not only help in selecting the gender, but also allow us to pick healthy embryos without chromosomal abnormalities. Since IVI believes in the philosophy of ‘Science, Safety, and Success,’ only a single embryo was transferred. Soon after the implantation, the mother conceived successfully. Today, the couple has a beautiful one-and-a-half-month-old baby boy”, added Prof. Dr. Human Fatemi.

While family balancing is offered at IVI Middle East Abu Dhabi and Dubai clinics, the institution goes ahead with the procedures only after a thorough conversation with their team of specialists and the couple.

IVI Middle East, the world leader in delivering fertility treatments in the region, manages best-in-class clinics in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the UAE and in Muscat, Oman.  Nine out of ten couples who consult IVI for infertility, achieve their desire of becoming parents. To this date, more than 160,000 babies have been born worldwide through the help of IVI.
