Mohammed Bin Rashid Library Organises "Mastering the Art of Conciseness Short Story Writing Workshop"
Dubai, UAE, 3 March 2025:
With a substantial turnout from literature and creative writing enthusiasts, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library organized a two-day workshop titled 'Mastering the Art of Conciseness: Short Story Writing Workshop.' This initiative is part of the library's ongoing commitment to encouraging writers, fostering intellectual production in the Arabic language, and nurturing literary creativity.
The workshop, led by renowned Emirati writer Fatima Al Mazrooei, aimed to equip participants with essential tips, narrative tools, and the key principles of conciseness in short story writing.
On the first day, the workshop explored the foundations of the short story and its significance as a literary art form that thrives on brevity while still delivering a powerful message. Al Mazrooei outlined the critical elements of storytelling, such as plot development, character creation, the importance of time and place, and the pivotal moment that encapsulates the heart of the story. The session also addressed common pitfalls for novice writers and provided guidance on overcoming them, while emphasising the importance of linguistic and narrative cohesion.
The second day of the workshop was dedicated to hands-on application. Participants were encouraged to analyse various literary models, engage in writing exercises, and discuss their work. Al Mazrooei provided personalised feedback for each attendee, highlighting strengths and offering constructive suggestions for improvement. The aim was to refine their narrative techniques, sharpen their skills, and cultivate greater creativity in their writing.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants praised the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library for its commitment to providing a learning environment that nurtures creative writing. They noted that the workshop was a well-rounded experience, blending theoretical insights with practical application, and allowing them to identify their strengths and areas for improvement in writing.
This workshop is part of a series of initiatives by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library aimed at promoting literary creativity, reviving the art of short story writing, and encouraging the practice of conciseness in storytelling.
