Dubai, 28 January 2020:   Set to begin on Saturday (February 1), Fakhr Al Ajyal Championship for Falconry – Telwah, announced today, the launch of a new category for ‘Falcon Owners’.

With the directions of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, this new category will come into effect in the upcoming Fakhr Al Ajyal Championship for Falconry on February 1-16, at Dubai’s Al Ruwwayyah desert area. The ‘Falcon Owners’ category is dedicated to participants who are also the caretakers of the falcons, thus availing wider opportunities for them and widening the participation in the heritage sport.

To boost the spirit of competitors, the total cash prizes for the winners were raised to more than Dh4million.

Rashid Bin Markhan, Deputy CEO at HHC, commented: “The new category (Falcon Owners) means matches at the Fakhr Al Championship have risen to 20, including the Noukhba (Elite) competitions with additional prize money.”

Souad Ibrahim Darwish, Director of Championships at HHC, said: “The Crown Prince of Dubai has always provided pivotal support to further broaden the presence of heritage sport and attract the new generation to its social and cultural values”.

Schedule of Competitions

The Fakhr Al Ajyal Championship for Falconry – Telwah is set to begin on February 1 until 16, beginning with the Juniors Category, followed by the Sheikhs, General Public, and Falcon Owners and will culminate with Al Noukhba competitions and UAE Falconers League.

Bigger tent

Designed to create a falconers’ hub, the tent of the falconry championships is larger this season to accommodate more lovers of this Emirati sport. The tent is fitted with huge screens to watch the matches and see the rankings. Details of the bird and time records are shown in the graphics during and after the matches. Tourists can sit comfortably in the tent and enjoy the race as the falcons dive to snatch the lure at the finish line.
