Safety and security for petrochemical industry to be key focus area at Intersec 2014

Range of solutions and technologies to be on show from leading international specialists

With most of the booming Middle East economies driven by the continuing growth in international demand for oil and gas, the safety and security of the crucial petrochemical sector takes high priority in the region.

As a result Intersec 2014, the Middle East's foremost international trade platform for safety, fire protection and security, will showcase a full complement of solutions custom-made for the petrochemical industry.

Straddling across all four of Intersec's focus areas – Commercial Security, Fire & Rescue, Homeland Security & Policing and Safety & Health – will be a variety of security, safety and protection technologies, products and solutions designed to ensure the continuing safety of the work environment in the regional petrochemical sector. Amongst some of the world's leading security and safety companies that will be showcasing such technologies at Intersec in January are 3M, Advancis, Arkan, Axxon, Bosch, CIAS, Funkwerk, G4S, GKB, Honeywell, Lukas, NAFFCO, Schneider Electric, Synetics and Tyco, to name a few.

Not surprisingly, organiser Epoc Messe Frankfurt feels that this will be one of the chief attractions of the upcoming exhibition. “The petrochemical industry is of vital importance not only to the Middle East region but for the international community as a whole,” said Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of Epoc Messe Frankfurt. “Not only is the oil and gas sector the lifeblood of the regional economies but its continued safety and security from any threat factors such as gas explosions, fires and oil spills is crucial to the well being of the global economy.

“Intersec 2014 will bring together a comprehensive range of products, technologies and solutions from the leading international manufacturers and security specialists, making this an area of high international and regional interest,” Pauwels added.

The petrochemical industry by its very nature is prone to a large number of risk factors which include the leak of hazardous chemicals or products from plants or refineries, the security of transit and transportation systems such as pipelines, shipping terminals and oil and gas tankers as well as the people working on them. This calls for security systems that are in stringent compliance with environmental and international health and safety standards.

Increasingly there is also the need to anticipate external threats to infrastructure and supply lines, which calls for greater attention to surveillance systems, access control systems and perimeter and
in-plant security.

“There is a growing need for safety and security across all sectors in the region. All stakeholders including developers, landlords, residents and authorities realise the importance of Health, Safety and Security to ensure business continuity, efficiency and most importantly a safe and secure environment,” said Rashed Bin Nasser, Chief Operating Officer, Ejadah Asset Management Group, whose subsidiary Arkan Security Management Solutions is a Headline Sponsor for Intersec 2014.

Among the products and solutions designed for the petrochemical industry that are being showcased at Intersec 2014 are: safety at work equipment, Personal Protection Equipment, environment protection at work, fire prevention & protection equipment, fire fighting equipment, emergency alarm & warning systems, rescue equipment, port & airspace surveillance, critical infrastructure security, detection systems, monitoring & access control systems, surveillance & guarding services, intruder & burglary alarm equipment and mechanical security systems & services.

Chris Fergus, Regional Managing Director – Middle East G4S, stated: “Through our participation in the leading regional security exhibition, we expect to keep both our new and our existing clients abreast of the latest trends in the security market, with a focus on tailored world class solutions that meet customers' specific needs.”

Apart from being the largest and most representative trade show for safety, security and fire protection in the wider region, Intersec 2014, which will run from January 19 to 21 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, will feature a comprehensive programme of seminars and workshops covering different topics spanning a wide cross section of the security industry.

With eleven events, Messe Frankfurt is one of the world's leading organisers of fairs and congresses for the expanding international field of safety and security technology. Eight trade fairs and three high-grade congresses in Germany, Asia, the Middle East and South America provide optimum opportunities for gaining a foothold in these dynamic growth markets.
