For Fall Winter 2014, Veronica Etro taps into the force of Etro’s origins while forging a path towards New Tradition. A crossroads of nomadic cultures, travelling on the silkroad between East and West, leads to legendary landscapes and reveals forgotten craftmanship and details.
A languid, folk couture mood weaves throughout, dusting surfaces with a gilded finish and wrapping the body with a cozy embrace.
PRINTS: The brand’s classic paisley pattern figures prominently in the collection, but has been cut with a fresh, new exoticism. Bleeding seamlessly into
oversized checks or floral motifs taken from antique lacquered and mother of pearl boxes, the paisley appears densely configured, almost like a wall tapestry. Pattern is contained in decorative panels reminiscent of antique Asian screens, or unleashed liberally across full length dresses and printed coats. 3D embroideries trick the eye as they disappear into flat printed surfaces. Traditional tartan or vertical striping are also reconceived in bold gold thread jacquards over sheer dresses.
MATERIALS: The impeccable workmanship of intricate thread and beaded embroideries, is cut into jewel-like panels on wool, tweed or herringbone jackets and coats. Plissed dresses and skirts are trimmed in braided passamaneria and printed borders. The primitive quality of thick suede stitching and fringe mixes as effortlessly with day wear tweeds as it does gold jacquards and elaborate needlecraft. Devore velvet is shot with brilliant lurex while a pekin striped silk fabric is over printed with paisley.
SILHOUETTES: Shapes this season are easy, flowing, and well-covered. Blanket coats, thick wool printed capes and cropped jackets feature new patchwork constructions. Skirts and dresses are cut below the knee while pants are cropped. Kaftan shapes look new on dresses in sturdier, winter materials.
Apron shaped embroidered panels are worn over a plisse skirt and with a jacquard sweater while matching two piece tailleurs or pajamas in printed silk are paired with heavy printed coats. An embroidered waist coat over a gold floral jacquard dress, a richly threaded Montgomery coat, or fluffy Mongolian fur all appear for evening.
ACCESSORIES: In burgundy, military green, rust, midnight blue and tobacco, the accessories carry forth the earthy palette of the clothing. Gold trimmed suede replaces leather on stiletto pumps, straight boots, envelope clutches, and bucket and postman bags. Embroidered panels, mini beaded purse necklaces, stone talismans and hammered gold metal jewelry add another layer of warm, exotic décor.
