The growing threat posed by criminals exploiting the vulnerabilities in the mobile devices we all carry in today's interconnected world, was highlighted yesterday, (January 21), at the Mobile Phone Crime Conference organised by Dubai Police on the sidelines of Intersec 2014.
The conference was one of the highlights in the Intersec Conference Series which was well attended by delegates from across the regional safety, security and fire protection industries.
The distinguished panel of speakers, which included experts from Scotland Yard and senior officials from Dubai Police's Criminal Investigation Department, underlined the serious threat posed by criminals to the relatively non-secured mobile devices used every day.
Andy Williams from the National Mobile Phone Crimes Unit, Metropolitan Unit, New Scotland Yard, gave the delegates an overview of the growing rates of mobile phone crime internationally.
Following this, Lt. Adbulla Al Shehhi from the Crime Investigation Department of Dubai Police reviewed some common kinds of electronic crimes which occur on the web as a whole, with particular emphasis on mobile phone crimes. He also gave some advice on how to make the smart phones more secure and protection of privacy and minimize vulnerabilities in mobile devices
David Rogers, Director and Founder of Copperhorse Solutions, UK, presented measures to counter threats to mobile phone security and listed ways to safeguard vital information on your device. Frauds occurring in the mobile world were explained by Naeem Hussein, Manager, Investigation and Analytics, Fraud Control & Operations at Du.
The programme concluded with an interactive session and a lively panel discussion highlighting key issues on mobile phone crime, in which all the speakers participated.
Yesterday was the final day of the record-breaking Intersec 2014, which opened 22% larger than the previous year. The exhibition which covered over 44,000 sq. m. at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre was well attended by international trade buyers and decision makers right through the three days of the show.
