Jewellery sales exceed AED 1.4 billion during Dubai Shopping Festival 2017

Dubai, UAE, February 1, 2017:   In the recently concluded Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group’s (DGJG) mega promotion as part of the 22nd edition of Dubai Shopping Festival, the overall jewellery sales is estimated to be around AED 1.4 billion across the participating jewellery outlets in Dubai. The promotion which ran from 26th December to 28th January 2017 was a major attraction among tourists and residents alike

“DSF 2017 has been an impressive sale season for our participating jewellery retailers; higher footfall definitely translated into higher sales volume during the festival.  Many of our participating retailers witnessed an average of 20-25% sales growth as compared to the the previous year and the overall jewellery sales is estimated to be approximately AED 1.4 billion across the jewellery stores in Dubai. The tremendous improvement in the participation by the jewellery stores and growth in sales can be attributed to DGJG’s innovation in the winning proposition. Having three winners in the daily raffle draw was definitely an added incentive for shoppers this year. Even though the gold price showed an upward trend throughout the festival, consumers flocked into the jewellery stores as they believed in the merit of gold as a safe investment option against all odds. The success of this year’s promotion is a clear reflection of the synergy between Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group and Dubai Tourism & Commerce Marketing and their commitment to support the private sector” said Tawhid Abdullah.

“We are happy to note that we have been instrumental in changing many lives through our raffle promotions, such glorious winnings are the highlights of Dubai shopping Festival,” added Mr. Tawhid. Altogether there were 100 lucky winners over the 34 days of DSF celebrations who received gold prizes worth around AED 5.4 million. Customers who purchased gold jewellery worth AED 500 were entitled to one raffle coupon and customers who purchase diamond jewellery, pearl or watches worth AED 500 got two raffle coupons to take part in the daily raffle draws. Raffle coupons were provided by all the participating outlets of the Group’s promotion during Dubai Shopping Festival.

Saeed Mohammad Measam Al Falasi, Executive Director, Retail and Strategic Alliances, Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism), and organisers of DSF, said: “The gold and jewellery trade has been a cornerstone of Dubai’s retail sector and we appreciate the major role played by Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group in ensuring the success of yet another edition of DSF, the most famous retail season in the region.  We are delighted with the performance of the gold and jewellery sector during DSF 2017 with the high volume of sales contributing towards boosting the overall retail sector in Dubai, and providing further testimony that key economic sectors in Dubai recorded significant growth during this period.

The mega promotion run by Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group along with the fabulous prizes helped encourage tens of thousands of people in Dubai to explore and shop for the best bargains offered by gold and jewellery outlets, an indication of how retail outlets can use DSF as a platform to successfully reach out to customers. The latest promotion by the gold and jewellery group was also well aligned with our campaign theme that exhorted visitors to ‘Shop. Win. Celebrate’.”

Mr. Tomy Joseph, General Manager of DGJG stated that the success of this year’s DSF campaign once again reiterates the commitment of the Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group to the DSF promotion campaigns. Our involvement level with DSF has grown over the years and we reaffirm our commitment in the years to come.
