On the eve of World Environment Day which is celebrated every year on 5th June , Sharjah’s leading environment and waste management company Bee’ah, honored the environmentalists and school’s sustainable projects in their 5th annual Sharjah Environment Awareness Award (SEAA) ceremony at Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre on June 4. The ceremony was organized by the Bee’ah School of Environment(BSOE), an arm of Bee’ah . Sharjah Environment Awareness Award (SEAA), an initiative of BSOE, encourages participants to come up with innovative ways to help protect environment not only by themselves but also by telling their peers and others in community. The award aims to promote environmental education, skills & values that lead to behavioral change that supports the school and the environment in a positive way. Delhi Private School-Sharjah ,once again emerged clear winner, bagging 4 prizes and an honour of their student as the guest speaker. Young eco-warrior, Environment Ambassador to the Middle East, First Prize winner of SEAA Outstanding student in 2014, a grade 12 student of Delhi Private School-Sharjah-Arushi Madan was invited as key note guest speaker to share her ideas , experiences and to motivate and inspire her peers into following her footsteps to becoming the very best environmental stewards they can be. Ms. Anjum Hasan, well known as trailblazer of sustainability, eco conscious, Green, teacher of Delhi Private School-Sharjah won the First prize in Outstanding Teacher category. She also won the Sharjah Sustainability Award by the EPAA, (Environment Protected Areas Authority) in the Category of the Outstanding Environment Co-coordinator in 2014. In the Individual student category, Rohan Kapur And Aaron Fernandes of Delhi Private School-Sharjah won the First and Third place respectively and Abhinav Singla of Our Own English High School-Sharjah won the second place. Delhi Private School-Sharjah also won the second Place in the Outstanding Environmental Solutions Project, for creating the i-Compost bin, a simple but innovative way to dispose of food waste effectively, under the supervision of Anjum Hasan, key drive behind sustainable projects in the school. Ms. Meera Taryam, Director of Environment Services and Education at Bee’ah, said: “The level of professionalism demonstrated by this year’s nominees was outstanding. We were looking for significant involvement and interest in both the environment and in the pursuit of sustainability; all of the participants revealed exceptional knowledge of our core philosophy and found creative methods to beautifully communicate this to our panel of judges.” She expressed her gratitude towards all the participants. She said: “Participants exceeded our expectations and proved their level of understanding to be exceptional. We saw highly innovative ideas exploring solutions to some of the most pressing environmental issues in addition to creative projects developed to spread awareness about the issues we are passionately pursuing in the region.” Ms. Anjum Hasan, the winner in the Outstanding Teacher Category, said ” This award is an encouragement and motivation and means a lot to me , my students and our school. We at DPS-Sharjah work in sustainable fashion in all our departments and awards like these make us much more responsible towards environment.” She conveyed her gratitude towards her Principal Mrs.Vandana Marwaha, whose guidance, support and Green attitude has helped the school and its fraternity to reach this status. “We are an ‘Eco School’ and will make the Sustainable Practices a part of our lives”.
