24-Day Ramadan & Eid Fair lines up a host of entertainment and amusement activities Sharjah, 18th July 2013 Expo Centre Sharjah has rolled out a red carpet to visitors as the 27th edition of the Ramadan & Eid Fair got under way in Sharjah on Thursday (July 18). Promising a shopping and entertainment carnival of sorts for 24 days, the Ramadan & Eid Fair was inaugurated by Mr. Saeed Obaid Al Jarwan, Second Vice Chairman, Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Ramadan and Eid Fair this year has packed enough entertainment, cultural and amusement activities in order to live up to its reputation as the most sought-after leisure and retail destination every Ramadan. The opening was attended by Mr. Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, Director-General of Expo Centre Sharjah, senior SCCI and Expo Centre officials, representatives from government departments and industry leaders. It will run until August 10. “This year, more than 200 exhibitors from across the world are showcasing an extensive range of household and lifestyle products at the show. True to its positioning as the best family destination this season, the fair has enough activities to keep everybody engaged during their stay in the halls,” said Mr. Saeed Obaid Al Jarwan.

Leading the list of activities is the ‘Taste of RamadanWeek', where cooking demos will be held in three week-long sessions, while the icing on the cake will be presentations by renowned chefs Zakir and Tarek Ibrahim. Visitors will have the chance to sample the food prepared during the demos and win gift hampers from United Foods and Milco. “Visitors can also look up to Islamic lectures organised in different languages and avail of a free health check-up. The popular Heritage Village has a bigger presence this time,” said Mr. Saif Mohammed Al Midfa. The free health check-up organised by the Sharjah Health Zone will cover blood sugar and blood pressure tests, while there will be free cholesterol tests on the opening day of the show. A lot of activities have been lined up keeping in mind the tastes and choices of women visitors, which include free make-up demos, skin care tips by beauticians and cookery contests.

Sharjah Municipality is targeting both the parents with their edutainment activity, where visitors will be enlightened on toys and playing materials that are harmful to kids and also about the harmful effects of food and chemicals we use on a daily basis. Children can have a whale of a time, with magic shows, face painting, quiz competitions, cartoon characters and folk dances keeping them engrossed and entertained all the time. Adventure Land is organising games for little ones wherein they can win coupons for free amusement rides. Those taking part in the quiz contest on fire safety and awareness conducted by the Civil Defence Department too will have the opportunity to win prizes. It will rain prizes and gift hampers for shoppers too. A minimum purchase of Dhs. 100 will entitle them to prizes such as air tickets, iPads, flat screen TVs, refrigerators, microwave ovens, dinner sets and cooking ranges, among others.

Companies like National Store are also offering instant scratch-and-win prizes. Being an integral part of the Sharjah Ramadan Festival, the fair also hosted the festival's first car raffle draw on the opening day. The show is open for visitors from 8.30 p.m. to 1.30 a.m. during Ramadan and on weekends (Thursdays & Fridays) from 8.30 p.m. to 2 a.m.. During Eid holidays the visiting hours are from 5p.m. to 11p.m. Admission is free.
