Sharjah, 2 July 2013: The upcoming Ramadan & Eid Fair 2013, which once again coincides with the summer vacation, is set to be the most exciting shopping and entertainment destination this season. An integral part of the Sharjah Ramadan Festival, the 27th Ramadan & Eid Fair 2013 will be held at Expo Centre Sharjah from July 18 to August 10. Packed with loads of shopping and entertainment activities, this year's fair will feature dedicated cuisine weeks, charity events, religious programmes and health initiatives, which will be a boon for residents as well as visitors. “Throughout its 24 days, the fair will strive to be a comprehensive family shopping and entertainment platform that caters to the entire household requirements of every family while at the same time has enough events and activities to keep every visitor engaged and entertained,” said Mr. Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, Director General of Expo Centre Sharjah.
Known as the finest multi-products show of its kind in the region, the Ramadan & Eid Fair will showcase an extensive range of household and lifestyle products from more than 200 companies from Africa, Bahrain, China, India, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Syria, Turkey, Tunis and the UAE. “Being summer vacation, we have lined up several activities to make the shopping more entertaining and engaging for the entire family, aiming to help visitors spend the whole evening in an exciting way. In this regard, we have a series of new events that will tickle the taste bud and amuse the visitors while at the same time help observe the solemn fasting period,” Mr. Midfa added. Charity and Ramadan go hand in hand and the Ramadan & Eid Fair 2013 is supporting the charitable activities of the United Nations' World Food Programme.
For the second consecutive year, WFP will have a stand at the show, offering a Value Card that has immense benefits and privileges for shoppers. The funds generated through the sale of the card will help WFP in its mission to eliminate hunger and provide food to needy people across the world. The ‘Taste of Ramadan Cuisine Week' will be a new addition, which will be divided into three week-long sessions.
They include sessions to be organized for children, where renowned chefs will be teaching and demonstrating how to prepare healthy and easy dishes. Local cuisines that are popular and usually consumed during Holy Month of Ramadan will be cooked in front of the audience during the second session of the event. And, the third cooking session will showcase international cuisines at a specially built kitchen station. The show will also have a special session by popular chef Zakir, who will be flown in from Pakistan to demonstrate his unique cooking style that is well-known all over the world. The show will be covered live on HUM Masala TV on August 4 and 5 as well as Sharjah and Fatafeat TV channels.
Besides, Fatafeat TV celebrity and Meat & Livestock Australia MENA's corporate executive chef Tarek Ibrahim, who is the first Arab chef to be nominated and receive the coveted status of Master Chef from the World Association of Chef Societies, will also conduct his cookery demonstration. A ladies cooking competition will give visiting enthusiasts a chance to showcase their culinary skills to not only other visitors but also chefs. Since Ramadan is a month of devotion, the Ramadan & Eid Fair will organize Islamic lectures in different languages by renowned scholars every Thursday.
The scholars who will enlighten the visitors include Al Shaikh Dr Mohammed Ghaith Al Ghaith (in Arabic), Al Shaikh Ehab Nadir (in English), Al Shaikh Zafar Al Hussein (in Urdu) and Al Shaikh Eisa Jaffer (in Tagalog). The popular Heritage Village will be bigger and better this time, with the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry itself organizing it to showcase Emirati heritage and culture, artifacts and a photo gallery that will bring into focus the life and culture in the past. Besides, the village will also feature artists who will recreate the lifestyle of yore, giving glimpses into the traditions of the past.
As in the previous years, the Sharjah Health Zone will provide free health check up for visitors. This year, apart from regular checks like blood pressure and sugar levels, the zone is offering a free cholesterol test. The Fire Department will chip in with a quiz competition for children, assessing fire safety awareness among the younger generation and distributing prizes to the winners. Other activities at the show include a talent show, beauty and fashion events, health, and fitness and nutrition awareness activities, among others.
During the Eid days, there will be additional events like adventure activities, magic shows, cartoon characters, Arabic shows and folk dances.
