Leading lifestyle home interiors chain plans global expansion through franchising route
Marina Home Interiors Retail Network, a Dubai home grown and a leading furnishings company in the Middle East, was recently recognized at the Global Retail and Leisure International (RLI) Awards 2013, in the Interior Excellence Award category.
Held at the Natural History Museum in London, Retail and Leisure International's (RLI) eighth annual awards programme recognizes and celebrates the most visionary and innovative retail and leisure concepts from across the globe.
Marina Home Interiors Retail Network co-founder Khurshid Vakil accepted the commendation and thanked the organisers for the recognition of the interior design for its World Concept store at The Dubai Mall, Dubai, UAE. “We designed the flagship store in a way to reflect a truly global and contemporary spirit - based on the chic/hip New York style lofts and Hamburg's warehousing district combined with finer elements – which we believe has a very strong international appeal suited to all type of shoppers that come to The Dubai Mall. We are thankful to RLI for giving our brand this prestigious recognition and are truly honoured to be the first home interiors company in the Middle East & Asia to achieve this feat.”
Marina Home's 18,000 square feet showroom at The Dubai Mall, both in terms of its merchandise mix and the store design offers a fusion of Modern and the Rustic, Avante Garde and the Exotic, Cosmopolitan and the Flamant, elegantly put together epitomising a new realm of design coexistence, sheer indulgence and uniqueness.
In view of the success of its World Concept store, Vakil announced that the company will re-model all its existing stores in the same manner as that of The Dubai Mall branch. It currently has large format stores in top locations across most of the Arabian Gulf Countries, Egypt and the Indian Subcontinent.
Meanwhile, Vakil also announced that the company will soon officially roll out a franchising plan that will hopefully fuel its global expansion aims. “Franchising is the fastest point of entry for us in new and emerging markets. We hope to add 10 large format stores this year in the region as part of this expansion plan.” A similar drive is underway across many other areas of interest, including the western markets, he added.
The award adds to many other distinctive accolades Marina Home has received over the years. Forbes Middle East recently ranked Marina Home 43rd amongst the Top 100 Companies in the Middle East “Making an Impact” in the Arab world in recognition of leading an industry, contributing to social development or pouring finances into charity work or economic growth affecting positive change.
“When considering Marina Home for the Global RLI Awards 2013 ‘Interior Excellence' Award, the judges were impressed by the extremely high standard of fit-out employed in the new design concept and the innovative use of both space and materials. These factors work extremely well together to create a welcoming, cosmopolitan-feeling proposition,” said Andrew Climance, editor of Retail and Leisure International (RLI), the world's only retail and leisure magazine.
The Global RLI Awards is judged by a panel of distinguished industry stalwarts which include Steve Sadove – Chairman & CEO of SAKS incorporated , Hamish Dodds- President & CEO Hard Rock International , Peter Sharp – President of Walmart Asia Reality , Theo Rapthis – Chairman & Owner of Boux Avenue & Star of BBC's Dragon's Den and Andrew Climance – Editor RLI, to name a few. Vakil received the award from Jayne Rafter – Managing Director & Publisher of Retail and Leisure International, organizers of The RLI Global Awards in London.
