FIRST BIG SEASON OF NEW SHOWS UNVEILED SINCE DISCOVERY NETWORKS' ACQUISITION OF FATAFEAT
Dubai, June 19, 2013 – Discovery Networks' recently acquired Middle Eastern food channel, Fatafeat, yesterday announced its all-new Ramadan programming schedule at an exclusive media breakfast in the Siddartha Lounge, Grosvenor House Hotel, Dubai.
Fatafeat will be taking the pressure off this Ramadan season by serving up a tasty menu of four brand-new series from the channel's most well-loved chefs, featuring short recipe solutions and culinary techniques to entertain and inspire even the most time-pressed housewife.
Beginning on Monday 24 June, the Ramadan schedule includes a new series from Chef Houria Zanoun who returns for a fifth season of her hit show Houriat Al Matbakh. Chef Mohammad Orfali will be back, showcasing the best of Arabic cuisine in his own unique and modern way in Matbakhna Al Arabi. Fatafeat's very own singing chef, Tarek Ibrahim, chooses meat as his new challenge in 100 Lahma; while Chef Nermine Hanno returns this Ramadan with even more mouth-watering deserts in another series of Wala Bil Ahlam.
Alongside this line-up, viewers can expect the best of Fatafeat's regular schedule, giving something for everyone during the Holy Month.
Fatafeat is the first and only Arab free-to-air food channel in the Middle East and #1 food media brand in the region, particularly amongst females. The channel broadcasts to approximately 55 million TV households in the Middle East and North Africa – the biggest markets being KSA and Egypt where 3 million viewers are reached daily.
Much more than just a TV brand, Fatafeat boasts a larger multi-platform entertainment experience including a successful monthly magazine (El Hayat Helwa), social media presence (more than 1 million followers on Facebook and Twitter) and a successful website (www.Fatafeat.com) which will also be re-launched for the Ramadan season.
In November 2012 Discovery Networks International – the #1 non-fiction media company in the world – acquired Takhayal Entertainment and its affiliated companies in Dubai and Egypt, including its flagship TV network, Fatafeat. The transaction was a targeted step by Discovery to further extend its reach in the growing Middle East and North Africa television markets, and to further complement and strengthen its existing portfolio of female-targeted lifestyle PAY TV brands, including TLC, Investigation Discovery and Real Time, which are now available in more than 150 countries outside the U.S.
James Gibbons, Country Manager & SVP, Emerging Business, Discovery Networks CEEMEA said: “Discovery's acquisition of Takhayal Entertainment and its flagship brand Fatafeat was incredibly exciting for us, marking our first investment in the Middle East and significantly growing our portfolio across the region. Securing Fatafeat's continued success in the Middle East is crucial as it provides us with the perfect opportunity to take Discovery's female-targeted lifestyle content even deeper into the marketplace.”
Darine El Khatib, Head of Channel for Fatafeat said: “We're gearing up for the Ramadan season with four new shows packed full of quick and simple recipe ideas from some of our most popular and famous chefs. As usual, our slogan for Ramadan is 'Ramadan Ala el Bab' (Ramadan is around the corner) and our entertaining and informative programme line-up will ensure our viewers feel inspired and ready in the run-up to the Holy Month. ”
