Dubai, U.AE. – 12th June, 2013 - The Canadian University of Dubai, today commemorated more than 500 students at its annual graduation ceremony held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Social Development.
The ceremony was held at Sheikh Rashid Hall at the Dubai World Trade Centre, and continued in the tradition of a Canadian dignitary's presence with James B. Love, Q.C., Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Royal Canadian Mint, conferring degrees to students alongside Sheikh Nahyan.
“We are extremely pleased to see our students graduating from the schools of Environment and Health Sciences, Architecture and Interior Design, Engineering and Applied Sciences, Business Administration and Graduate Studies.,” said Mr. Buti Saeed Al Gandhi, Chancellor of the Canadian University of Dubai.
“It is our endeavour to create good global citizens; therefore our programs have been developed to ensure a holistic learning experience for our students. We are confident that each year we graduate students who will make pivotal contributions to society,” he added.
“We have been working on numerous expansion plans to benefit our students and the community we serve. With the help of students and faculty, we are able to stride ahead with great vigour and have seen exceptional growth over these last few years. We started with 300 students in 2006, and we now have 2,500+ students from 86 Nationalities studying 30 different programs. This is a testimony of the vision we have for this university and its students,” said Professor Karim Chelli, President and Vice-Chancellor of the Canadian University of Dubai.
“We are also extremely proud of our communication programs, offered in both English and Arabic, that will graduate students this coming year. This program is a prime example of how we tailor to the job market as media is becoming such an integral part of the Arab world. It offers students insight into becoming responsible journalists and communication professionals,” he added.
The Canadian University of Dubai offers a Canadian-based curriculum, offering students the opportunity to experience Canadian education while respecting the culture and values of the United Arab Emirates. All programs, housed within each of their six academic schools provide students a positive balance of classroom and practical knowledge. Extra-curricular activities including fundraising, social, sports and leadership events are encouraged.
