World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated every year on 5th of June to raise global awareness of the need to take positive environmental action, and it is run by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
To mark this occasion, a team of enthusiastic volunteers from Xerox Emirates, in partnership with Dubai Courts and supported by Dubai Municipality have Initiated the “Together to protect the Environment” initiative, and planted trees at Dubai Courts premises, aiming to have a positive impact on the community, help save the environment, and paint a greener brighter future. A total of 40 trees were provided by Dubai Municipality in their support of this initiative, half of which have been planted today by Xerox Emirates volunteers, who battled the scorching heat for a good cause to contribute to a sustainable environment. Participants included Xerox Emirates General Manager, Andrew Horne, and Dr. Ahmed Saeed Bin Hazim, Director General of Dubai Courts.
The activity is part of Xerox Emirates' continued efforts to encourage businesses to go green and to keep the U.A.E clean. Planting trees around buildings and homes doesn't just improve the aspect of a city, but it is also an effective measure to cut air-conditioning costs for up to 50 percent, as well as provide oxygen for the community.
