BROTHER INTERNATIONAL (GULF) FZE sponsors Craft Land's Quilt and Stitch Art 2013' competition

23 May 2013 - BROTHER INTERNATIONAL (GULF) FZE, the leading global manufacturer of home sewing machines, is supporting the local arts and crafts scene with its sponsorship of Quilt and Stitch Art 2013', an annual competition hosted by Craft Land, a needle and fibre crafting store in Dubai. The event throws the spotlight on the originality and creativity of the emirate's locally crafted, quilted, knitted, stitched, crocheted and embroidered items. All entries for this year's competition are placed in an exhibition till May 25, 2013 at the Town Centre Jumeirah.

According to the competition organizers, Quilt and Stitch Art 2013' celebrates the skills and patience required in crafting items by hand--with or without a little help from machines, all from scratch and following an original concept or variations on a theme. The competition is open to all, be it hobbyists or professionals and as long as they currently live in the GCC region. A total of AED 50,000 worth of prizes will be given away in this year's contest, which includes a round trip ticket to Tokyo to attend the International Quilt Show 2014, a Brother INNOV-IS V3 Embroidery Machine, a Brother INNOV-IS NV50 Sewing Machine and a Brother Overlock Machine among others.

Dubai is home to some of the most talented knitters, cross stitch artists and embroiderers, whose skills are ably demonstrated in the uniqueness and beauty of their work. Over the years, Brother has developed and released sewing machines and other sewing tools that can help these craftsmen in their creations. This is why we are sponsoring this year's Quilt and Stitch Art 2013,' we want to help give these local artists the proper exposure and support that they need while also showing the wide talent pool that the Middle East region, the UAE in particular, represents, concluded Soichi Murakami, Managing Director, BROTHER INTERNATIONAL (GULF) FZE.

Two winners will be chosen for this year's competition; one chosen by an esteemed panel of Brother judges and one chosen via public voting. Visitors to the exhibition at the Jumeirah Town Centre can vote for their favorite entries and automatically be entered in to a raffle to win a Brother P Touch Scanner. Winners will be announced in an awarding ceremony to be held on May 25, 2013 at Town Centre Mall at 4pm.
